gelatin protein treatment gone wrong or not?

So... I was thinking I should do a protein treatment because my curls got less curly.
When I was showering I took a strand of hair, it stretched like more than 50% before breaking.
Now I did the gelatin protein treatment (I already did one for 5 minutes a week ago, but it didn't seem to have any effect), left it for 15 minutes, rinsed and conditioned. My hair wasn't dry at all when I rinsed (I was a bit surprised to be honest) but I read that you should moisturize your hair really well after PTing, so I did my normal conditioner and then followed with a hairmask for 3 minutes... Then I put in mousse, I plopped for 30 minutes, airdried for 30 minutes and diffused till 90% dry

Now my hair feels soft but I seem to have less curl... Is that normal? Shouldn't I have more curl now?

I feel like I'm panicking a bit (probably over nothing), my hair isn't fully dry yet so maybe I should just wait until dry and then SOTC and then see what that gives...

What do you think?

(And I'm really stalking these boards I guess)
I just want my curls to be awesome tomorrow

(going to a restaurant with some friends to celebrate my birthday, turning 22 tomorrow)
for me after I do a PT my curls look kinda weird like you described but after the next time I wash and style it looks much better

If your hair doesn't feel dry, don't over moisturize it after a PT, which is what it sounds like you did. there's no RULE to doing DTs after PTs, part of being curly is finding what works for you & it may not be what works for others.

you'll know if you need that kind of moisture after protein. if it don't feel dry, stick with a light RO & go on with your day. I can do PTs and follow them up with VO5 condish & be fine.
Geek_Chic and Hootenanny like this.
fine, thin, normal/(low?) porosity. Mod-CG. Usually I can't co-wash more than 1x a week, & sometimes I have to use T-Gel in rotation due to scalp issues.

Co-wash: VO5 Volumizing
Poo: Giovanni 50:50
RO:TN, Nexxus Youth Renewal, Alba Coconut
LI: KCKT
PT: gelatin PT, ION EC
Stylers: Giovanni mousse, TIGI Curls Rock amplifier (a-cone), Curls Rock Strong Hold Mousse
Gels: SCC spray gel

it seems I panicked over nothing... my hair seems to be just fine... but feels soft, really strange... I had expected dry curls... The really soft thing is probably because of the mask though...
But it wasn't as bad as I thought...

Although, I just rewetted my hair (it seems that just wetting, without washing or conditioning always gives me better results...) and am plopping now, will see when it's dry (hopefully in 2 hours, with the help of diffusing, otherwise it would never ever ever be dry in 2 hours... more like 6-8 hours)

My hair has to look as I want it to look tomorrow... HAS to ...
(one of my friends who's coming to the restaurant tomorrow hasn't seen my curly hair yet, so I want it to look good...)
Happy birthday, Neleke! Hope your hair behaves. Mine always looks best after a gelatin treatment.
3B, fine, normal to low porosity

Thank you mhen76!
Now it really is my birthday (it's 1am here)
I'm still waiting for my hair to dry... hope it will soon (almost.... thank G*d for diffusing...)
It seems to be better...
I'm still having to go to the doctor at 9am (he's going to take some blood since I feel really dizzy lately) and I will wear a scarf to protect my hair ...
Since my friends will probably sing happy birthday to me in the restaurant, and everybody probably then will be watching me, my curls have to be awesome...
Not "good"... but... awesome...
I'm so happy that most of the times I get good 2nd hair day, I just have to get it right now before going to bed...

Next gelatin treatment I'll:
- probably leave it on for a longer amount of time....
Now I left it on for 15 minutes. How long should I leave it on next time?
- don't put a moisturising mask on it if my hair doesn't feel dry

Can I do a new gelatin treatment next week? (I'll have my hair coloured again on the 13th)
I do gelatin treatments weekly and leave them in for an hour. My hair is fine and responds well to the protein. I'm prone to over-conditioning so getting dry has not been a problem for me. I'm even putting gelatin in my FSG as of late. It really is all about finding the right balance of protein and moisture for your hair.

when I do them, I do it for 30 mins. I use protein in ROs every day tho, especially in summer. fine hair usually responds well to it.
