Default Tried new protein heavy routine; having a great hair day!

I may not need to get my hair cut if I can keep my hair like it is today. So exciting!

here;s what I did.

Spritz & Condish method to do a heavy duty PT last night- damp hair with Joico K-pak reconstuctor in plastic treatment cap and a warm wooly hat- slept on this.- I sleep alone so it doesn't matter what I look like

This a.m.: Co- wash with an old bottle of loreal conditioner with pearl protein

plopped for 5 minutes with flour sack towel

sprayed 5- 6 sprays with Joico Liquid Reconstructor

scrunched in 3 palmsful of Curl Keeper

then lightly scrunched in BIG handful of Deva Frizz Free Foam.

I had so much product in my hair I thought I would have to wash it again but decided to diffuse anyway to see what would happen.

So what happened? Fantastic hair happened, that's what! I have to go out tonight so will refresh with water mist and use some CHS Tweek to pump up the volume.

Plan to pineapple and sleep in plastic treatment cap to see if I get 2nd day hair out of this...

BTW, my hair can't get enough protein and is fine so this may not be suitable to many who don't like protein.

But it may be something that fine wavies/curlies who get over moisturized might want to try. None of the products weighed down my hair much.

Very interesting Ondulee!
I did a quickie gelatin PT the other day, and actually left some in. Added leave-in and gel over it and it looks good!! I am on the 3rd day, and except for a tiny bit of frizz up top it's holding up. A guy actually complimented my hair on the street today, and asked to touch it. That's a whole other thread thou!!
My hair isn't fine, but there is no protein it doesn't like. I may start adding more protein to my everyday routine as the weather gets more humid. But can't sleep with PT in my hair, my boyfriend may kick me out of the bed lol. How can I speed the PT process up?

you can put in your PT then put on a treatment cap and heat a thick towel in the microwave or dryer to wrap your head in. Re-heat the towel each time it begins to cool off, and keep your head wrapped for an hour or two, the heat will help the protein absorb into your hair.

also, as an update of the evening yesterday, I used some Tweek to lift the roots a bit and misted with water to re-activate the products a bit and scrunched carefully. Let it air dry without messing with it til fully dry and then SOTC. Went to my event and got many compliments on my 'beautiful, gorgeous, lovely etc' hair with most complimentors unable to stop themselves from playing with the curls... I call that a success.

I pineappled with the treatment cap to sleep and hair was acceptable to twist up into a clip with the ringlets hanging down from the top like a ponytail. It's holding up really really well today, I think I'll get another day out of it tomorrowm and tomorrow night I'll do the whole routine again to see if its a one off or not. All in all, I'm pretty happy.

Even my sister who hates my hair curly and has commented negatively on it every day for the last 4 years couldn't resist playing with my curls in the elevator.

Ahh I never thought to use heat with PT. Sooo doing that when it's time for another one. I am too cheap for the store-bought stuff so I only do the gelatin homemade PT. So since I am fresh from one already, I thought to try something new. I rarely experiment anymore with my routine, but since you mentioned Curl Keeper I wanted to try!! But again, I am too broke so I started Googling and found that lube can substitute for CK and I already had some. I did mix it with a pea of a weird "Gorilla Snot" gel that has PVP as a main ingredient because straight lube has no hold. It worked amazingly! I always thought my hair hated glycerin, plus I thought it was a no-go in humid weather conditions. So far, best hair day ever!

You know, reading your siggy I see our hair shares a lot of the same properties, and some of my hair IS actually fine. Its like patches of it. I have baby fine corkscrews at the nape of my neck and around my face. No wonder my hair hates creamy condish, heavy leave-in and oils. I use quarter size amounts of condish to detangle and my hair is LONG. It is amazing, no matter how I think I know my hair, I learn something new on here.

And yes, when the compliments just won't stop it is SUCCESS! Too bad your sister makes negative comments but the fact that she did tousle a few curls is like an unspoken compliment. I may never get there with my boyfriend. He is the only one that makes negative comments about my curls, but getting compliments in front of him just makes my day I don't mind if complimenters want to touch it but they can't be creepy and please ask first. And NO RAKING FINGERS THROUGH THE CURLS!!!

So my last question is, do you ever use drugstore products? I am no longer strictly CG as I do use one 'cone in my leave-in but cheapie recs are always welcome and good for my budget.

Yes, if I could find a heavy protein cheap-ish CG conditioner, I would use it as a co-wash. I think I will always invest in K-pak and Curl Keeper and even Deva Foam because each of these products has the ingredients in the right amount and or formulation that my hair seems to really love. I cheap out on my make-up but I think I can invest in my hair. I am not a fashionable person, not really interested in fashion at all, so my disposable cash goes towards my hair products...I economize with everything else.

BTW, what is

VO5 Kiwi Lime has protein. Also, I picked up a couple of Nature's Gate conditioners because they looked like they had a good amount of protein. I bought them to use as RO, but I found one of them (the daily herbal conditioner) rinses exceptionally clean and I was toying with the idea of trying it as a co-wash. Another woman here was talking about just adding NPF to her regular co-wash conditioner to give it an extra protein kick.

I looked up K pack and realized it's not much more expensive than the Aubrey organics Honeysuckle yucky sunscreen smelling mess that I picked up last weekend. Kicking myself, because unfortunately I can't afford to get anything else for a while. I cheap out on makeup too lol.

And again, kicking myself. I could have tried any of these. I looked up NPF, so cheap! This I could possibly swing! This discovery that my hair really IS fine in some areas has come as a shock. I wonder if I can just water down the Aubrey organics, hmmm... Did you find that the Daily Herbal condish smells funny? That seemed to be a common complaint from other reviewers. All in all, got a few ideas for when I get a hair budget again. Thanks

Note on the NPF - you don't need a lot so it lasts you a while!

Yes- the herbal conditioner has a very strong fragrance to it.
