Calling all curlies in super humid locations...lets share high dew tips!

I'm a Florida girl as well and I tend to change up my routine in the summer. I deep conditioning more frequently and depending on the dew point I add Gel on top of my AG Re:coil. After I rinse and rake my leave-in, i scrunch with a micro fiber towel, seal with argan oil and then add my stylers.

I am sooo scared to try products with oils or try to seal my hair. They just "sit" on top of my hair and builds up. So for the fine hair/ lower porosity ladies what are you finding that is working. Are you just going heavier on the PTs?

Okay, I seem to be having better luck with creams in this humidity. I had great luck with AG recoil yesterday. Today I did my hair twice.

1st time: joico hard hold gel over curl keeper- so much frizz as it was drying, it was hopeless so I started over.

2nd time: tigi curlesque curls rock amplifier (has an "evaporating" cone, btw) topped with a tiny squirt of BRHG. PERFECT! No frizz.
2C/ Coarse/ Normal porosity/ SW Florida/ Salt & Pepper

Condish: JC Too Shea, CJ Curl Rehab (both as RO & LI)

I'm gonna try adding some oil to my leave in now that the dews are higher, we'll see. It still weighs down my hair so I'd prefer to do without oil too.
I've been going heavy on the protein since I figured out my hair properties and now I'm cutting out glycerin. Just realized the PT I was using as a leave in has glycerin so that might explain the frizz I'm still getting.

It seems alot of low porosity curlies use grape seed oil. May give it a try. I hear about cutting out glycerin with products. However my GPB has glycerin, and I'm not sure I can replace it. If you have any ideas let me know

I did however try the SS CEJ + FHG today. So far I am in LOVE. I will use them a few more times before I give a review.

I also sealed with MO the past 2 days and definitely feel it worked better than the Jojoba I had been using! Thanks Jas!

I've been really happy with my hair the past few days. Lots of experimenting with glycerin free stuff, creams, and oils. It seems to be working!!!!!!!!

There's a thread with discussion about this--I'm not at home and can't find it.

The problem is, I don't trust myself in a kitchen, lol. I cook for my family, but hair recipes tend to turn out disasterous....for example....trying to make FSG.

Try 1; strainer had too large of holes so I had to pick out a bunch of seeds, and then all the gooey goodness got picked out too.

Try 2; bought a new strainer. Consistency was perfect. Worked pretty well and was happy with the results.

Try 3; I thought coconut oil would be a great add-in....until the next day when I pulled it out of the fridge to use it. You know the result, lol. Little hardened white drops of solidified coco oil floating throughout!

I am an admitted product strumpet. Right now, I LOVE the okra gel. My hair looked really good when I used it. It's been consistent, so I look forward to the days I can use it. (I only let myself use any one product once in five days.)

I'm such a PJ, too...there's just something magical about coming home from work to find a little cardboard box sitting on my doorstep! I guess that's the main reason I prefer to buy stuff than to make it myself, lol.

Can someone explain to me what happens with glycerin in high humidity/dew points? I live in Costa Rica where the humidity is high but the dew point has so far been no higher than 50, that will change as we get into rainy season though and I'm in new Orleans next week where it is high.

I've only just begun to discover that my hair loves glycerin in products, but that has been whole out visiting family in idaho, so now I'm confused and concerned that my new found product love will be short lived.

Glycerin, and all humectants, draw water. If there is more water in the environment than in your hair it will help hydrate the hair. Some people have concerns that the opposite also occurs in really dry weather. Glycerin in my styler in high 60 dews made my hair go frizzy-poof worse than I've ever seen it. Another girl said her hair loved glycerin and said the same styler worked great, not sure where she lives though. All you can do Is try it and have supplies for an emergency bun/updo.

Okay, my parents just surprised me with a cruise to the Bahamas in two months, so I guess I should start following this thread. The dews in my area do get relatively high over the summer (they top out in the low-mid 70s), so the information is useful anyway.
Last summer was my first summer doing CG (modified, technically). I was lucky enough to find out that my hair has a relatively high tolerance for glycerin- I didn't have frizz issues until the dews were approaching 75. I also seemed to do well with Ouidad Climate Control Gel (non-CG, and more expensive than I would prefer for more than rotational/intermittent use). But my regular stash of products was definitely not cutting it. I just ordered the SS CEJ and FHG from CurlMart this morning, so I will definitely try this combo. I haven't even been able to muster up the energy to do a very long overdue PT/DT, so I don't see myself trying to cook up FSG or okra gel anytime soon (although I might try ordering from BB one of these days- my stash was getting wonderfully smaller, but then I went a little crazy on CurlMart this morning (coupon code), after having some fun at aveyou.com last night. The aveyou order was my pre-planned reward for dropping 20 pounds on my diet; I decided the CurlMart order is my reward for this weekend (I will be testing for my black belt in Tang Soo Do tonight and tomorrow morning). But regardless of my very good reasons, I am going to have way too many products in my bathroom again.

In general, my hair is pretty easy-going too when it comes to ingredients, so glycerin products may not affect you negatively. Everyone is different. Curl Keeper, which I absolutely love, doesn't quite cut it for me in the summer, but I am still experimenting with it. I find I need to use a cream or gel as well. But I'm not a fan of gels, in general.

Hmmm it will be interesting to see how my hair reacts then, I have had no frizz issues at all so Dar, in fact my hair has tended more towards going limp, so maybe glycerin will be just what I need, if not I have just spent a fortune on products that won't work for me back home. C'est la vie.

Ok Corina, your post finally has this whole thing making more sense to me, and after a little more research it seems the dew points in Costa Rica may not get as high as I originally thought. Fingers crossed I'm on to a winner with my new product regime. Thanks for the really thorough response.
