There are lists online are the most frequently run into sulfates and silicones. It'd share the link but I'm on my iPod. :/ But if you are interested in a certain product and unsure of it, you can search on this site in the Product Reviews section and they will tell you whether a product is sulfate, silicone, paraben, or glycerin free and a few other useful facts about the product. It you can search discussions about products on here and see what others have to say about a certain product. That's what I usually do.

In addition to sulfates and silicones, most also avoid drying alcohols. Anything else is subjective and up to the individual. Some avoid mineral oil and petrolatum. Of course anyone with allergies will avoid whatever they're allergic to, or if someone is protein or glycerin sensitive, they'll avoid that ingredient. Special cases like that don't mean protein or glycerin are "bad" or "not CG", simply that they don't agree with everyone's hair. This page is a handy reference: Ingredients Commonly Found in Hair Care Products
