Look, I know its tiring, but I need more help!

Today it rained. It poured. I had used my SM shampoo, my TN conditioner; CK, and 3 spritzes of hair spray. BIG mistake, that hair spray - frizz. But it rained, it poured, all day! so what does my low porosity, coarse hair need in this horrible weather?
Myrna, do you seal? That might make a difference in keeping excess moisture out. Also kinky curly does a good job of keeping the rain from frizzing my coarse, high porosity hair if that helps. I think because of the aloe in it that helps seal my hair.

Dusa, I dont. I have not found a good sealing product and I dont know where to start. The SM milk? should I use AVG over CK? under? WAAAAAAH!!
Most people just use oil I think. I really like jojoba and grapeseed oil since they are light. I use either by mixing it with my leave in conditioner and smoothing it over the body of my wet hair. So maybe take a dime-quarter size of your TN conditioner while you're still in the shower and add a few drops of oil. Or just smooth the oil in your palm and glaze your hair with it once you're out of the shower and not dripping, before you apply your curl keeper. But you're right if I'm using the SM milk or the smoothie as a leave in I tend to bypass the oil because those products are so moisturizing I believe they seal me all on their own. And yes you can also use straight up AVG to seal. It's really good at regulating the PH of your hair which makes your hair far less prone to frizz. I haven't tried it yet but I throw it in my FSG and that stuff eats frizz. Just like KCCC. Also user rmc2 I think told me she mixes Lily of the Valley aloe gel, 3 parts that to one part jojoba and makes a hair gel out of that. That sounds like it would keep any and all frizz out if you were just to make a mixture to seal. Maybe treat it like a leave in conditioner before the curl keeper/finishing product or something. . .

Dusa, I have some AVG that I can try in the shower like you suggested. I also have a bottle of the SM Coconut Hibiscus shine spray, but Ive not really used it because I dont know exactly what it is for, or how to use it...do you have any thoughts? And, I have had the milk, and the smoothie in my hand so many times I cannot count...but you see, it is my understanding that low porosity hair does not really absorb, and products can kind of "sit" on the hair and just weigh it down (has happened to me) or make the hair greasy...I cant stand that. I also have ReCoil, and could try some of that with the CK....oh dear, I need a drink. Straight up, no pun intended...
Oh Myrna, I feel your pain!! Lol!! Of course for me mineral oil is the only way to really combat humidity. I'm not sure how that would work for your low porous hair, but it's my miracle.

Jojoba and grapeseed work pretty well, but their effects don't last like MO. I still use them in good dews or days I won't be going out much and know I'll have a chance to wash again the next day. I've use MO with success on days where I'm outside in high dews for several hours, even.

I have the SM shine spray. I use it almost like a hairspray, and as a refresher. I use it on dry hair - I don't know that I've tried it on damp at all, actually.

I'm not sure if any of that helped, but that's all I can add to help, I think. :/

Look, I am sure you know by now I am quirky but I cannot stand oil on me - on any part of my body. I dont like the idea of oil on my hair, at all - I know its just an ideosyncracy of mine but I cant put oil on my hair, I dont think - and because it is low porosity I think it would just grease it up. Maybe not coconut oil but I dont know how to use it, its like candle wax...

Are you sure you're low porosity? Perhaps some of your product frustration stems from you not having an accurate description of your hair.

Anywho, sealing sounds like a good idea.
pretty sure. Meets the criteria. Havent had it analyzed and dont plan to.
Myrna, if you heat coconut oil just a little bit it turns to liquid -- I leave my jar in my upstairs bathroom and it's warm enough in there that it's pretty much always liquid!

2c/3a, fine, low porosity.

Poo: Garnier Fructis Pure Clean (yes, it has A Sulfate!!, but I have Teflon hair)
Co-wash (when I feel so inclined, which isn't often!): VO5 Kiwi Lime Clarifying Conditioner
Conditioner/LI:
same for both -- whatever I have in the shower at the time (I experiment a lot)
Style: EcoStyler Olive Oil <3
Dry: Diffuse or air dry, or both...depends on my mood

I've read vinegar rinses help seal the cuticle. Perhaps that's something you can add to your routine more often instead of oil.
I get it (about the oil.). I had the same concerns when I first started sealing.

But we're talking a few DROPS, on wet hair. I've never experienced any oily feeling at all, even with MO which doesn't really absorb (or at least doesn't for a long time.)

You might give it a shot on a weekend day or something, just to see how it goes. That way you can wash it out if you do have any trouble.

If you aren't open to sealing, I'd guess maybe leave off the CK on rainy days, though I thought it was supposed to help humidity - but maybe that's just not the case for your hair?

Is there enough moisture IN your hair before you use the CK?

The ACV might be a good thing to try. I mix a little in my RO rather than actually rinsing with it, just so I can take a step out.

Idk. It gets frustrating, doesn't it??

You could also seal with a non-waterbased cream...low porosity tends to not absorb oil resulting in a greasyish look but some people can make it work.

I personally use Komaza Califia Moisturizing Cream (any cream/butter without water will act as a sealant though) and I love it...I don't use any sort of pure oil though, synthetic or natural.
YES, its frustrating, Jas. I have considered some oil, small amounts like you said...I have some baby oil here, will that be OK? trick, my CO turns to liquid in the warm weather - it is the cosmetic type - but it is solid right now . I suppose I could melt some and use a bit of that. Jessie, I have thought about the glycerin in CK; and have never figured out the glycerin bit, although I have stayed away from it until the CK. Its not in the top ingredients, in any case...I think for a lot of curlies, CK by itself is not enough, and this may be the case when it is rainy and humid. In any case, I took Dusa's suggestion today and slathered on some AVG in the shower after the LI and before CK.. Will see how that goes. The issue with ACV is it kind of "strips" my hair, in other words, I think it removes the moisturizing effects of my SN and CH shampoos...but I can try that again also. I kknow one thing for certain: adding water back into my hair after it has been styled and dried result always in frizz.
Rizos, that is exactly why I have not tried oil. Where do you get your Komaza Califia Moisturizing Cream, how long is your hair and how much do you use? and do you use it after your LI and before you add styling products?
Myrna, my daughter has low low low porosity hair and we had no luck sealing with oil ( grape seed oil works somewhat on low dew days), her hair just does not absorb it and leaves a greasy oily sheen.
We have dews in the high 60's lately and her hair was a big poof ball, with no clue what else to try used EverSleek Humidity Defying Leave-In Creme by loreal and the transformation was awesome. She has waist length hair when wet and she put 3 pumps in soaking wet hair and followed up with a spray gel which left her with frizz free well defined curls for 2 days ( she usually washes every day because she is a very active 13 year old ).
My high porosity hair loves this stuff too, but I would never have thought it would work so well on low porosity hair.

My hair hates everything Deva curl and Curl Keeper,
My hair is technically of normal porosity but I treat it as low. Because of its extreme coarseness, it acts like low and things do not penetrate, hard to wet, hard to treat, etc.

I get Komaza on the ground from a local boutique but I'm in Montreal. I think most people order it from their site. Komaza was just an example, it's pricey (even more with shipping) so I'm not necessarily rec'ing it but it works very well for my hair properties.

My hair is about APL...I use it after my LI (which is my conditioner) and that's pretty much I all I do. Condish on dampish hair followed by Komaza. I find that with low porosity it's important to not overload the hair. There is only so much it can absorb (at once) and using 4 products is just wasting money and annoying your strands because they cannot absorb it all. I narrow it down to the essentials - one moisturizer and one sealant. I don't use very much Komaza...I use a pea-ish sized amount for a small section, which I then braid up as I'm transitioning.
Rizos, I can relate. I used to think my hair weighed down easily; now I know it is either product overload, or that my hair wont absorb. Do you, or anyone reading this post, know if a sample is available somewhere of this product? It sure is pricey and I would hate to use it once and retire it the product graveyard...

Have you tried sealing dry hair with a low hold gel?

I always liked Curlkeeper for that too.
