Question Trying to figure out Permed hair

I am not sure if my hair is actually type 1, not type 2a, but it doesn't do much on it's own naturally.

I recently got a perm for the second time, a body wave perm actually, and I'm looking for some advice on products, as so far I've only been able to get my hair to be wavy while being kinda crunchy and what I think would be described as frizzy...

I currently use sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner (trader joe's brand) although occasionally I use Aussie's '3 minute miracle', which I would assume contains some sulfates, but the thing is I don't use silicone-free styling products (mostly numerous Got2B products) -- is that just a total recipe for disaster? Not sure what products would work well and give me the volume my hair desperately needs as well as soft, natural looking waves but any advice would be greatly appreciated...
