Lazy gelatin PT leads to great hair!!!

I had GREAT hair today!! My lazy PT turned out to be AMAZING!

So here's what happened. Today after the boys were finally napping, I decided I'd do a PT. I got distracted by something and started the shower, only to realize I had not prepped my gelatin PT.

Lazy as I was feeling, I didn't want to bother going all the way downstairs (see? I said lazy!!), so I just opened a pack of gelatin and mixed it into a paste with cold water. Then I added tap water as hot as I could get it, and stirred. It wasn't fully dissolved, but it was getting there.

So I added some Ion Effective Care condish, then I dissolved some Epsom (just a pinch) in hot water again, and mixed that in. Then I added EVCO, some CNPF, and a little ACV.

I low pooed (with cocobetaine), used to TN to detangle, then put the PT in. I covered it with a bag and let the water run over it to warm it while I shaved, etc.

Then I rinsed it out and styled as usual.

When I took my plop down, I looked in the mirror and literally said "OH MY GOD!!! I had clumpy tight (for me) spirals all over my head!!! Even my stubborn lazy canopy!!!!

I had always thought a gelatin PT would not be effective unless you boiled the gelatin, but something made my hair VERY happy with this one! I figured it would have little to no effect!!!

Please let us know if you can duplicate this. If so, I may try to do exactly what you are doing! Sounds wonderful.

I certainly will!!! I'll probably try again in about a week!

I thought I knew most of the acronyms. What is CNPF? What is TN?

The list at the top doesn't have these! Mystery ingredients and I'm so tempted to do exactly what you did.

Oh man, love it! I really need a PT!

CNPF= colorful neutral protein filler, from Sally's, its a liquid protein treatment/additive

TN= pretty sure this is tresseme naturals, not sure which one, I could be wrong on this one. Jas might need to clarify. :toothy3:

Wow, that's awesome. I'm super lazy with preping my gelatin. I pretty much never boil it. I use to just microwave it until it was really hot, but now I just use very hot tap water. I put the powder in a little jar, then I mix in some ACV and really hot tap water. Then I jump in the shower. I shake that up until it's mostly mixed. Then I mix in Aubrey's Organics GPB condish, and that's my protein treatment. It usually combines well enough. I leave it on my hair as I take a long shower, and wash it out at the end. It works ok for me; I can definitively tell that it makes a difference.

Thank you Lynaea! :love7:

Oh so sorry!! Lol! I see we've clarified CNPF! TN is Tresemme Naturals - mine is the moisture formula. Really I think any lighter condish with enough slip to detangle would be fine!

I usually prep my gelatin in the microwave, too, but it still boils in there! I had always heard and thought that you HAD to do that. But today went so well without cooking it, I have to wonder if it doesn't make a bit of difference at all!!
At least for my hair. Maybe?

I tried it again today...

Success again!!! What is it about gelatin that makes my hair so happy?? Lol!

Can you walk me through how to do a protein gelatin treatment? I'm still not 100% on all the acronyms, so acronym-less please? lol
THANKS IN ADVANCE

Ok, so here's the lazy version:
I just opened a pack of gelatin and mixed it into a paste with cold water. Then I added tap water as hot as I could get it, and stirred.

Then I dissolved some Epsom (just a pinch) in hot water again, and mixed that in. I then added some Ion Effective Care conditioner, Coconut oil, some Colorful Neutral Protein Filler (from Sally's or Amazon), and a little apple cider vinegar.

I low pooed (with cocobetaine), used to Tresemme Naturals conditioner to detangle, then put the PT in. I covered it with a bag and let the water run over it to warm it while I shaved, etc.

Then I rinsed it out and styled as usual.

For the REAL version, I mix 2-3 packets of gelatin with cold water (about 1/8 cup or so) then I microwave it for about 30sec. (I just let it go until it starts bubbling.). Then I'll mix a little Epsom, coconut oil, and vinegar. (Sometimes I'll use lemon juice instead of vinegar, and sometimes I'll add a little of the protein filler.)

I will low poo, condition and detangle my hair, often with the Ion condish mentioned above, but not rinse it before adding the PT. then I'll bag it and either warm it with the hot shower (as above), or get out and warm it with a heating pad (if I have time - which is rare.)

Hopefully that explains it! :) Let me know if you have any questions!
