Default BREAKAGE

I have breakage. Oh gosh its horrible. Right behind my part and its really short. It sticks up. Im devastated guys. I ignored the long strands coming out of my wash and go and the long strands that would be in my hand when raking gel and now I have breakage. Im not sure why.

Has anyone experienced breakage from using trader joes nourish spa conditioner? Could ny uair be protein sensitive and that cause the breaks? What about eco style gel? I told myself to stop using thay CRAP. Its so thick and impossible to rake.

Its 3am and im almost in tears. I went and bought some shea moisture products. Hopefully they work for me. Please share if youve had a similar experience.

Are you sure it's breakage and not new growth? The reason I ask is my new growth tends to be more coarse than the rest of my hair, and when I do a PT, those new hairs tend to stick up. New growth is a good thing, but they're hard to control since they're short.

I foolishly convinced myself that this much "shedding" was ok because its not as many strands as I think because of the length. Boy was I wrong!

Thanks for the reply. I doubt its bew growth because my hair just isn't as full anymore and because of the amount of hair I lost whenever I did my wash and gos.

How often do you do wash and gos? And how many days of hair do you have where you don't touch it (2ns day hair). Is the amount of hair you're losing now waaayyy different than before?

I lose a lot of hair I think, too. But I wet, brush, and style every day. My point is, if I only wet and styled every 4 days, for example, I still would have lost the same amount of hair daily, but they would all be removed on that wash and go day and not the others (when we curlies shed hair naturally, it usually just stays on our head, twisted with other hairs, until we remove them or shower or brush).

I won't lie, that looks like a ton of hair in your pic. But like I said, if you're getting 5 days of hair, then that could be 5 days of hair instead of 1 like I experience.

If you truly think its breakage, can you post your hair type/ properties and routine / products so someone can try to help you? From what I've read, breakage is caused by 1- serious chemical damage, 2- too much protein, 3- too much moisture. So balance is key, but you'll have to figure out, if its breakage, if its due to too much protein or moisture and go from there.

I dont got more than 3 days between wash and gos. Sometimes 4.

I have fine 3b/c strands with normal pomposity.

The only products I use is Nouish Spa Conditioner and Ecostyler.

I've been dealing with the same problem...feeling like my hair isn't as thick and the tiny hairs sticking up that seem like breakage...idk what I did wrong, maybe we can get some insight idk.

Im glad im not too!
3b/3c, fine/medium, very dense.
I wash with shea moisture shampoos, detangle with whatever conditioner works, then i style with shea moisture styling milk, seal the ends with the smoothie, and scrunch in some souffle and let it air dry. Sometimes i use a little of the marc Anthony argan oil hairspray. And that's really it. I deep condition twice a week with fekkai shea butter treatment overnight and do nexxus emergencee protein treatment once every 2 weeks. I don't use heat on my hair anymore and i recently got about 4 inches cut off...idk what the deal is.

Besides the area of your part, does your hair seem thinner overall? Have you noticed a difference in body when you wear it down or when you gather it in a ponytail? Take a tape measurer and give it a go. Someone told me to do this to check my density (I was 4 inches all around circumference wise) and so now whenever I pull my hair back into a ponytail before I exercise I just do a quick check with my hand wrapped around it. Then I'm all, "So far, so good. Feels the same."

I realize a lot of people style their hair with raking but I don't because it makes my hair big and breaks up my clumps. Also I did notice I'd inadvertently pull out hair while doing so. So if I did try to distribute product via raking again I would only do so if the products had fantastic slip. Maybe try a gelly type product? Most gels are full of chemicals and not so slippy. Kinky curly products (especially the knot today) have good slip for me. So does the SM milk. The Smoothie has less slip since it's thicker but still probably not so bad.

When I go four days without washing I get a pretty big hairball, but at most it's half the size of yours and my hair is thick in diameter and I have medium-high density. That being said, every head of hair is different and if it isn't breaking off in the middle it's probably shedding, right?

Idk if my hair is dense I doubt it though. I just bought the Shea moisture pudding and shampoo. Didn't care for the shampoo but im gonna buy the rest of the line tomorrow. What do you suspect is causing yours?

Raking has always caused breakage for me so I try to stick with smoothing. Also do you use clips when you wash your hair? I've noticed breakage from using clips to section when I wash. Now I'm experimenting with washing my hair loose

I really don't know. I'm thinking maybe detangling...and i also lost my satin pillow case so my cotton one may be causing the friction and breakage... :/
