Anybody use just AVG as a styler?

Myrna and I were wondering about this. Thought I'd ask. I love products with aloe in them but haven't used AVG in place of gel yet.

Hi Dusa,
I tried it once and did not like it at all. My normally smooth, tangle free hair was knotted, stringy and stiff. It also made my hair take a long time to dry. It did, however, do wonders for my complexion lol. I never tried it again in my hair after that one experience.

Haha. I also like to use it as a moisturizer on my face sometimes. It gives me a glow. It's also great on my arms and legs after a day in the sun. I'm thinking I'll do a tester. Try a small puddle of AVG on a section of hair. It my hair reacts badly I can always rinse the section out and fix it with cream and gelly.

Please let us know, Dusa. Marci, did you use a conditioner? Im puzzled by your results, AVG is a pretty light product...

i've tried it...i found it didnt have great hold by itself, but it worked nicely when i needed my hair refreshed in the morning and just scrunched some in....i read about making a refreshing spritz with AVG and water, but perhaps i read wrong, cause my spray bottle got clogged, no matter how much i diluted it

I used as a shave gel, moisturizer before foundation and on my arms and legs. It was smooth and not sticky, love!! But I say do give it a try because its a natural ingredient. I dont suppose it will do any damage since its easily rinsed out. Good luck!!

I dont remember using a condish with it Myrna, I used to stay away from any type of leave ins until recently. But this was one of maybe a handful of things that absolutely did not work for my hair and had to be rinsed out immediately. It could just be my hair ????

Thanks Mel :-)
I actually dont remember what I was using in the photo, it is so old. I never figured out how to update it, or how to create a siggy. I have a ton of technical issues with NC.com. Always bugs and problems. Drives my software engineer bf crazy lol. But if anyone could point me in the right direction, it would be much appreciated.

Marci, the first blue green bar down from the top of the screen shows User CP/ Rules & Guidelines/ Community/ Calendar, etc....

Click on "USER CP"

Once the menu pops up, click on "Edit Signature" on the left hand side menu, under settings and options.

You can add your signature there, including any information you want. And then you can change it any time.

My eyes do that to me too with all the acronyms. :confused5:

AVG = aloe vera gel. ACV = apple cider vingear. And yes, I constantly have to blink and go one plus one equals two. So confooosing.

I have used the 100% AVG. It's an okay alternative if you must pare your products down, as it has multiple uses, so I sometimes use it when traveling. I find that it works best when I add a very few drops of jojoba oil, and mix them together well in my hand before applying. Used that way, it has a more pudding like consistency, and makes a decent substitute for KCCC.

anonymous_133347 04-22-2013 10:05 PM

Reporting in--I did straight up AVG as my gel on the right side fringe around my face. Conclusion? Not much hold. I went outdoors and the wind blew the curl right out. 3A to 2C in one hour flat. :confused3: I fixed it with some water and KCCC though so no biggie. It didn't make me crunch or dry me out though. I think AVG might be good as a styler on a day that isn't windy. Or if you have a very strong curl pattern in general and just need frizz protection.

Myrna 04-23-2013 06:33 AM

Well, that is disappointing, Dusa, I wonder why some gals can use Conditioner only and AVG does not work as a styler - not surprising though..however, it works great as a sealer.

anonymous_133347 04-23-2013 07:45 PM

Maybe if one were to mix it with a bit of jojoba (create that pudding) and a few drops of a hard hold gel. I know I have some Aussie Instant Freeze buried somewhere in my cabinet. (We didn't see eye to eye.) I'm not going to purchase it again but maybe I'll be able to tolerate a drop or two if I mix it with more natural ingredients.

I use AVG underneath a strong hold gel and I find that it gives me better curl definition.

I do a small puddle of AVG first, followed by a larger puddle of either HETT, Biotera or Deva gel. Scrunched into sopping wet hair that has lots of conditioner left in it, or with LI that I added after showering.

I find that AVG does not work for me as a refresher - this is where dry, crunchy and limp hair happens.

The AVG + Biotera combo is pretty close to HG for me.
