I just purchased the new Deva clips from here!!! Regular shipping is $6 but they offer a $1 shipping in the US with no returns.

I can't wait to receive these and try them out!!! I will definitely try the cross clipping. I keep forgetting to look at sallys for similar clips..maybe today. I will report back when I receive my new clips.

I got my new devaclips today!!!

They are definitely bigger than the ones I picked up at Walmart :0.
I will post a comparison picture. The devaclips are in my hair right now and they definitely hold/stay in my hair much better. The smaller ones kept falling over and pulling my hair.
So far, for the new, bigger Devaclips!!

We shall see how this cross-clipping works for me.

So I tried cross-clipping today.

Oh man.

So. Much. Volume.

Now normally, volume wouldn't be an issue. HOWEVER, I looked like I walked right out of the 80s! I achieved the type of grotesque volume that usually takes me hours of backcombing and hairspraying to achieve! I could NOT deal with it, so I pulled the canopy and clipped it back. Still, though, people are commenting on the volume in my hair today!

So now we know: cross-clipping totally works. And I'll keep it in mind for the next time I need to revisit the 80s!

Oh, this made me laugh. The first time I tried cross clipping I had to rewet my crown and pin it parallel to get it to go back down a good 50%. (You could do that if it goes overboard. Takes an extra five minutes but it's an easy fix.) My rec would be cross clip teeny sections. That's how I got cross-clipping to work for me.

I do single clips along my part, but the cross-clipping intrigues me. I tried it after I watched the video, when this thread was first posted, and I just absolutely could NOT use both hands at the same time to put the clips in. I was awkwardly fumbling around and my hair was getting all tangled as I fussed with the clips.

So now I'm curious...are you guys putting in one clip and then the other? Or are you using both hands at the same time? I don't know what it is, but I look in the mirror and one hand is going one way and the other hand is in front of or behind it...I just can't get the hang of it!

Try practicing in the air maybe? Take two clips, hold them out in front of you, and imagine capturing a bit of hair in each when you open them up and then cross them together and clip. One fluid motion. Zig and a zag. When you remove them it's the same way. Pinch each end and pull them apart, releasing the curls you've gathered in between.

By the way, I do it two hands at the same time but maybe someone else has a different technique that might help wendi out?

Since I'm drying my hair right now and have the clips in I'm uploading some pictures. As you can see here I did them directly on the part as I've been styling my hair to the side lately. There are six clips altogether. Don't know if you can see them. And three teeny cross clipped sections. When I release them later I'll have a decent amount of root volume but nothing too flashy. And as you can see, absolutely no hair is tangled in the clips so when I release them by pinching each end and lifting up into the air nothing snags. You can also see they're not falling over or flopping. One clip upholds the other. Honestly, everyone, give this a try. It's really easy. Practice in dry hair first as it's easier. That might be enough for you. If you want the cleanest curliest look though, you can graduate to doing it in wet or damp hair. When your hair is wet it's at it's heaviest and that will weigh down your curl at the roots if you leave it to dry like that. If you clip your roots while drying, however, the weight of your hair is not dragging the root flat so the curl/wave pattern will be more even throughout. And these clips are cheap. I got 12 of them at Sally's for $3. You can get a ton of them online at amazon or ebay for cheap as well. This is the easiest fix for root volume I've found.

Thanks for the pic. I was just thinking someone needs to post one. Now do the clips intertwine one another? I’ll definitely have to practice on dry hair first. I do love me some root volume since mine is always sooo flat. ugh

When I do it, one clip is sort of holding the hair, and the 2nd clip is holding that clip up and in place. (There is some hair in the 2nd clip, though.)

So yes, the two clips are clipped to each other!

Did this again today, and it went even better! I do hate how hair gets caught in the top of the clip sometimes when I go toe remove it, but as long as I'm careful that problem is minimal.

Really liking this method so far! Still need some practice, but I think this is a keeper!

Yes, they cinch in the middle. Like an X. It shows it in the video. Jas, I'm glad it's working for ya. How are your curls today? Did they make a comeback or is the wacky dew point still giving you trouble?

Oh, it's the same for me! I've been cowashing straight for almost two weeks I think. My hair needs it. It's the sun beating down on it that dries out the hair, I'm speculating. I notice every time I go out for extended periods of time my hair gets dryer. I think this may be true even if you live in a more humid climate. Maybe it's our high porosity?

I'm sure the porosity doesn't help. It never does! Lol!

When it's hot and I'll be in the sun a lot I like sealing with EVCO and MO. The EVCO stays liquidy when it's hot, and my hair looks and feels more moisturized. The MO does its usual magic. . Sometimes I use both oils, sometimes one or the other.

It will be interesting to see how the cross clipping technique holds up to high dews and long exposure to them and the wind!

I add EVCO to my leave in sometimes. I love coconut oil. It's liquid (or solid, hahaha) magic. I think next to avocado, those are my two faves. Although I haven't tried avocado yet as a leave in or sealer. I figure since it really penetrates the hair shaft it might not be as effective since I need more of a barrier, right? I don't feel the need to try mineral oil yet because it's never humid here but I do have it in mind if I take a trip somewhere more humid like Florida. Or Texas. It's a little frightening to think of how my hair might react in the humidity. It honestly gives me a shiver.

Oh yay! Yes, I'm so pleased it worked for you as well because that's exactly how I cross clip my hair, hovering over the crown, down and in, capturing teeny bits of hair along the way. I think that's what it shows in the video too although I haven't watched it in a while.
