Post Gelatin Treatment...

Is your hair supposed to feel coated? I clarified and applied, I did forget to towel dry my hair first, while it was in it seemed very dry and stripped, but the second I rinsed it out it felt gunky. I tried to apply my conditioner, but it repelled in that way conditioner does when your hair is really dirty.

Is this normal? Does it go away? Cause I'm going to feel so bad for my hair if I have to clarify it again. Is this a low porosity problem? I'm feeling very curiosity killed the cat right now. It was cheap, people love it, I thought I might need protein...and I probably should have stayed away .
Some curlies find they need to do a deep treatment after a protein treatment.
Hi Jessie,

If its any consolation I've had no luck with PT's either. The first time I tried the gelatin I forgot the ACV, so I thought that was why it didn't work. When I did it again with ACV it did feel kind of coated /oily(?) after, I was surprised and confused, I've tried it a few different ways with no obvious results except a messy shower and bathroom floor. At this point I've pretty much given up doing real PT's, I just look for RO's with protein and have been using PT's as leave-ins. You describe your hair as medium-fine though so maybe you don't need as much as I do.

The DB Pumpkin condish has oat protein, are you still using that? If your hair likes that you could try a deep/protein treatment with it. I know you have allergies to some ingredients and aloe is a no no so I'm not sure what other RO's to suggest. I'm trying Mill Creek Botanicals, AO GPB and Natures Gate CO's but I think they all have aloe. I haven't used Curl Junkie because I'm allergic to dia(whatever) urea but they have several products with protein too. Also you might check out the ingredients for the Colorful Neutral Protein Filler, its cheap, you can order it online from Amazon or Sally's and you can add it to anything.

Good luck

I do think it's a low porosity thing. I hypothesized that the protein treatment was the culprit when my hair just wasn't right for about a month. I had done it two PTs in a row (big mistake.) My hair did seem coated after the second one. Wasn't sure that was it or some other product I tried. Did a sulfate shampoo and it was fine.

I do at least one PT a week. The gelatin is the only one that's give me problems. My favorite is the CJ Repair Me. I don't need to DT after I do it.

Before discovering that the gelatin PT was an issue for me, I put it in my okra gel. I did one envelope for 4 cups (rather then one envelope for 1/4-1/3 of a cup) and it's fine. I LOVE my okra gel.

Thanks guys! I'm really glad I'm not alone. I clarified this morning and the gunk is gone. My hair feels like total and complete straw, but at least my products work again and my hair looks back to almost nice. I'm not even going to look at a sulfate for months.

I, Jessica M, solemly swear to never use: Gelatin, ACV, or any product or treatment loved by porous curlies. I don't care how amazing or shiny someone's hair looks, it isn't for you.

I looked, the filler has aloe in it. Everything has aloe in it .

Oat protein works a bit different than other proteins. It doesn't concentrate itself on the cuticle, if I'm understanding this correctly.
Hydrolyzed Oat Protein - Derived from oats; adds texture and thickens hair, soothes, softens, and nourishes it. Restores strength and elasticity. Easily diffuses into the hair shaft to give a fuller, healthier look.

I might look for DT with oat and milk protein. I think if I did regular DT with my DB it would help. I'm the lazy DT person EVER.

I just checked and the CJ Repair Me is aloe free, I think you were looking for something less expensive but if you only need it once a month or so it should last awhile. Also Kathymack sells a sample of that so you could try it without too much risk. The list of what she has available is on her website (linked to by clicking on her username)
I'll vouch for her excellent service and quick shipping.

I know Kathymack has a hood dryer so I also think about whether or not I should get one of those
it's way easier to think about doing stuff than to actually do it.

Oh well, maybe tomorrow!!!

I tried the ACV I think it just over seals my cuticle. I find I need to open it back up a little almost. If that makes sense. It's just not good for me.
