Mousses/Styling Foams

Hi Everyone!

Lately I have been experimenting with various mousses and styling foams to give my lifeless hair some volume. Anyone have a favorite? Drugstore, online, etc. doesn't matter. TIA!

I like Design Essentials for Naturals. I also loved Paul Mitchell's Mousse before my BC--I honestly haven't researched the ingredients or tried to use it since but I will soon as I loved it. I don't like the Extra Body Mousse by PM but the regular one.

My HG fave is Condition 3 in 1 Mousse....never lets me down! I'm a 2B and this does a lovely job of giving me hold, bounce, shine...all the things us wavies crave. Does seem like it's harder to find in the drugstore anymore; I usually order it from Walgreens online. Here is the link...and make sure you get the white can with the purple writing. It's not fancy-looking, but it works marvelous...

JCS wrap and roll- no heavy additives but leaves great hold!

Alfaparf's Semi di Lino. Hard to get here and pricey but really good and you only need a little bit (well I do) so it lasts ages.

deva foam

ECCurly 05-01-2013 07:22 PM

Unfortunately I can't use anything Deva. Every single one of their products gives me terribly painful breakouts. JCS does this too. I have problems with certain oils, and those two brands are detrimental to my skin. I've tried HETT with 'meh' results. I like the Tigi Strong Mousse, but I'm not so crazy about the smell. I'll have to give some of the other ones a shot. Thanks ladies!!

Not a mousse but I've been getting good volume from the l'oreal ever curl cream gel (blue lid, swirled in the container)
I also like tigi foxy curls mousse

I'm in love with the morrocan curl mousse. It smells amazing, it's moisturizing and curl enhancing for me.

Paul Mitchell Sculpting Foam! I LOVE that stuff! It is also CG-friendly. :love6:

They sell the generic version at SallysBeautySupply. I've never tried the real thing, just the generic and it works nicely.

2nd the Moroccan oil volume mousse! Lots of volume, reasonably good curl definition and hold. And no sticky feel. It's expensive but I prefer it to any of the others I've tried so far.

Where do you purchase it?

Noumenon 05-02-2013 10:58 PM

Vivant Revitafoam is IMHO the very best mouse/foam you can get. Its gives soft hold but also moistures dry lifeless tresses. The catch is its not cheap

... sooo Taft Curl Mouse is what I actually use daly, gives my hair a soft bounce with out going crunchy :king:

I've tried other products but I always end up going back to Pantene Curl Defining Mousse. I apply it after plopping (when my hair is damp). On subsequent days I spritz my hair with water when I wake up and apply a little more mousse to redefine my curls. It's never sticky and gives me good bounce!

Curlsnswirls - I buy mine from the salon where I get my hair done. I think it's mostly sold through salons but it may be available on line. HTH!

ive just started using the morrocanoil mousse as well, i really like it. i use my leave in condish and oil first, i kind of rake it in my hair, after ive showered/washed it. i i use one full pump flip my hair unside down then i work the mousse in my hair. i wet my hands with cold water and scrunch a bit.
it really gives me nice curls.
