Aww, thanks. I never had root curl this much until I cut it short! Here's my "before CG" pic for reference! Yuck! I can't believe I went out like this- it doesn't even look curly, just straight up frizzy.

The only reason I had long hair was because my hair "turned" curly 7 years ago when I was pregnant and I had no idea how to care for it, so it was in a ponytail 24/7 for 6 years and longer = better ponytail. I always wore my hair short before I became pregnant. Now that I have a handle on things, I will keep it short because I feel it suits my personality and lifestyle better.

I used it again today and had another amazing hair day! I can't believe how it holds up! I'm wondering how long this will last- I bought the 16 oz size and keep it in the fridge. But since I rotate products I only use it 1-2x a week. Should I freeze some?

I make large batches and freeze it in four ounce portions--even though I do add preservative. I just feel better doing that. While it's my current favorite product, I only use it once in 5 days, if that. I "save" it for special occasions, so it's not always the fifth day.

A few of the preservatives you can use are potassium sorbate, Germall, or Optiphen available here:

Preservatives - Lotioncrafter - Premium Ingredients for Personal Care Products

I will keep most of mine in the fridge or freezer, but probably keep small portions out that I will be able to use up in a week or two.

Wow. Beautiful. Green here too.
To me it seems like honeyquat is for adding moisture not really hold. I haven't tried to interchange agave nectar with honeyquat yet. I think ill experiment with it during "winter time"(that's a laugh living in FL) rather than summer here. Chloe, it is in season now and you should be able to find it fresh at Publix or even a farmer's market. Publix in Atlanta usually even carries it (farmed in Chile) throughout the winter.

I had to order the Foolproof Mudd myself after seeing your photos. I am pretty close to needing to knock out a bathroom wall to make room for more product, but if this stuff works as well for me as it does for you, I guess I won't need any more space. Here's hoping!

I honestly and truly have always had "bad hair", until now. I can't even believe I'm posting photos on a hair forum! I avoid cameras at all cost. But I really do feel like this site has changed my hair life forever.

Please let us know once your Mudd arrives (hopefully you won't have to wait as long as I did!). And remember to use a LOT more of this than you do with other products. I have found you can definitely use too little, but it's really hard to use too much! I glop it all over and make sure every piece is smothered in it, til it's making loud squishy seaweed sounds.

I had to buy frozen sliced publix brand okra this time. I have used fresh before; not really sure I saw a difference in performance. Plus the fresh sometimes looks shady. ..lol...

Ok I have my notebook with recipe, which i tweaked a tad from kathymack's... . These are all per 8oz or 1 cup yield of product. ..after I strain I immediately add 1/4 tsp of magnesium flakes, 1/4+1/8 tsp of agave nectar, 1/2 tsp sucragel, 1/4 tsp vit E oil, 1/4 tsp citric acid, 1/4 tsp potassium sorbate, and 1/2 tsp guar gum...PLEASE NOTE YOU MUST USE SOME KIND OF THICKENER...

I keep one 3oz bottle in fridge and others in frezzer. Just to be on the safe side

Chloe, sorry for leading you astray. I've lived in south Georgia, metro Atlanta, and northern Florida and i have no memory of ever being unable to find it fresh at Publix in any of those areas! I wonder if it is just a question of whether it is a "soul food"/country cookin' type of area. I would have bet money that you'd be able to find it there. I know that store policy is that they'll special-order frozen and nonperishable stuff for you if you mention it when they ask if you found everything you needed, but i am not sure whether that extends to fresh produce. I am making a mental note to ask my local manager about it the next time i go.

Do you diffuse or clip to get all that lovely volume on top, or is that just the magic of okra? What scent did you go with, and how do you like it? I have frequently erred on the side of "too much product," so i have scaled back drastically to work my way up to "just enough." I am sure that my previous practice of applying while damp vs. current experiments with applying while soaking make a difference in the amount needed to be effective as well. Sorry if you already told us, but how wet was your hair when you slathered in the okra gel?

I seriously can't get over how much i love your hair.

Ok, to answer...I apply my LI in the shower, then throw an Aquis towel over my head and pat all over to remove some water. Then I flip over the tub and rake in my products, then "scrunch and pump" 8x per section. I take two handfuls of hair, grab it, and scrunch up, and then gently open close my fists 8x on the handful of hair. Like squeezing my bath pouf to remove the soap, lol. When I've done every section, I go immediately into a plop for 10-15 mins or so. Then I diffuse almost completely upside down until pretty much dry. My hair at this point looks pretty crazy! I gently move any weird pieces to get my part in order, and leave for work. I do not clip my roots anymore, but I did when my hair was long ( I just recently chopped it ). When I get to work I SOTC. I usually have to bobby pin this one weird spiral back that always hangs in my face.

I ordered the vanilla buttercream scent and its nice! I wear vanilla sugar body spray so it works.

I do rotate products, since I'm a junkie, and I'm afraid if I switch only to one thing, it will stop working!

Thanks for the complement!

I definitely understand the distinction between the geographical south and the cultural South. If you find the fresh at a FM and end up with extra, it's really tasty roasted at a Hugh temperature with a coat of olive oil and some salt and pepper. It gets crispy and it's healthy and delicious. I am picky and never liked fries okra, but it is awesome roasted.

Thanks for the detailed description of your hair ritual. How long did it take you to figure out your process? Just curious.

Thinking out loud: I am a PJ in that I am always looking for a HG and will try dang near anything twice, but I discovered during a struggle with sudden skin problems that bit is best, at least for my face, to find something that works well and stick with it. My face abhors everything except plain honey and witch hazel, so I can't mess with that routine if I don't want bad results. I wonder whether hair is similar in that regard. I guess hormones can affect the properties of both hair and skin and change them from a baseline. It seems that there is probably also a nutritional balance for both, a happy medium of elasticity, moisture, and cleanness that is ideal... Too bad there's not a medical discipline focused on hair health, eh? TG there's no such thing as a hair pimple.

Thanks for giving me a lot to think about in the arena of hair science!
