I've been a CG convert for about 5 months now. What I've learned is what works this week, might not work next week, lol! Products that worked in the winter, don't work in the summer. But I do believe technique is as important, if not more, as product. For the moment, my technique is working. But even a couple weeks ago, I was applying product to soaking wet hair, so it's constantly evolving.

I have tons of family in the Carolinas, and I do love me some southern cooking! Just not fried okra, lol. I'll try it your way!

Ok. You have officially mademe want to make some Okra gel (maybe okra and flax?), and chop my hair!! Your curls are LOVELY!!

Do you find okra better than flax? Is it curl enhancing at all? Does it have any hold?

I may have a new summer project...

Add me to the "want to chop" brigade. I love your cut, it's such a shame I can't pull off short hair.

YES!!! Hold, volume, frizz control, curl enhancement like nothing else I've ever used!!!! I do use the GVP liquid sculpting gel over it for addl hold since all day hold is one of my major problems. This combo lasts ALL DAY INTO NIGHT!

I don't know how it compares to FSG though, because my past attempts have been flops. I just made a batch this morning though, but of course had a set back (see my new thread, lol). I purchased this okra gel (Mudd) from BB.

My hubby and I cut my hair using the creaclip!!!! My mom had to clean it up a little last weekend, but I seriously don't think I will ever go back to a salon!

I haven't been to a salon in over a year - I cut my own, too! But I think I need to go to one because my layers are a wreck. I thought about the creaclip... Maybe I'll revisit the idea.

So you say it does it all, eh? Hmm... What are your properties again??
I use FSG for enhancing and clumping, then HAVE to put gel over. (The GVP liquid sculpting gel is next on my list to try!)

Might be a summer project!!!

Normal texture- maybe on the fine side since my hair likes protein, porous, normal density.

Here is how ShellyRN does it:
" I have made couple successful batches so far with recipe as follows: 2 tblsp of Marshmallow root with 4c of distilled water and 1 full cup of horizontal sliced okra. Low boil for 30-40mins. This yield 2cups of okra gel. I then add kathymack' s portions for the preservatives and 1/4+1/8tsp of agave nectar, 1/4tsp mag flakes, 1/2 tsp of sucragel. Too chicken to try grapeseed oil..lol"

A few of the preservatives you can use are potassium sorbate, Germall, or Optiphen available here:

Preservatives - Lotioncrafter - Premium Ingredients for Personal Care Products

I will keep most of mine in the fridge or freezer, but probably keep small portions out that I will be able to use up in a week or two.
Thank you chloe92us <3 I will try this out!

HoC is my hair twin!!
Definitely need to try this okra gel! May do an okra/flax mix, too!

Must do a preservative, tho. The refrigeration thing is the pits for me. Can't travel with it, and always forget to grab it before I get in the shower! Plus I forget to put it back in the frig half the time!! Lol!! Even looked into getting one of those tiny refrigerators - basically a powered cooler! Then I thought "ok, you're going too far." Haha!

I hadn't used my Mudd in a while and decided to revisit it today . Wow I had forgotten how much my hair loves this gel! I used GDLI, smothered my hair with the Mudd and topped with a dab of BRHG.
I'm tempted to make some myself along with some FSG. The Mudd I have is the foolproof version and its perfect for me!!
Hopefully tomorrow I can attempt this. It's been ages since I made some FSG.

Well I used my new batch of FSG yesterday and have determined I like okra gel so much better; a lot more hold, more curl enhancing, better frizz control, and much better scent!!!!!

i went to a different publix this morning, and they didn't have fresh okra either. ShellyRN and Kathy Mack have both used frozen, so I think I'll start there.

With this batch, I like the okra gel a lot better than the FSG--and I add similar ingredients! I will say, I do like the fresh better then the frozen, but I may have gotten better with my add ins.

BB just moved from MN to TX. Can't imagine she doesn't use frozen. Couldn't have been getting to much fresh okra in MN during the winter.
