KCCC: Do or don't for fine/low porosity curly?

I'm trying to find a new styling product because I'm almost out of CJ CQ and that hasn't enough hold for me and I think my hair is not too fond of the polyquats, so I'm looking for something new. I'm considering getting KCCC, and have done my research, but seeing that there are so many different experiences, I'd love to hear more specific stories.

What I'm most curious about:
- Does it provide some hold? 'Cause I could definitely use some.
- Does it help to define your curls?
- How do low porosity curlies feel about KCCC? Does it sit on top of your hair or does it do quite well?
- How about fine curlies? Does it way down or is it a rather light product?

By comparison, my hair hates oils and they weigh it down. My hair is okay with CJ CQ, but it has not enough hold and I get build-up from the polyquats. My hair hates CJ CCCL (which is too bad. I wanted to love it, but it just doesn't work for me).

I have to order it tomorrow because delivery takes a few weeks and I think CQ will last me only a few weeks.

I know it's difficult to really determine whether I will love or hate KCCC, but I think these questions (or rather, the answers) will definitely help to get an idea of how this stuff works.

I love it.
It does provide hold and curl definition for my fine, low porosity waves.
It can feel coated if I use too much but I only use a little. I also like to use it on soaking wet hair and then comb it through or rake with my fingers. If I do a quick cold rinse after, it gives me good clumps and distributes the KCCC.

Hope that helps

I'm fine and low porosity as well and kccc is by far one of my favorite products. There is a learning curve with it, and a little goes a long way. one jar lasts forever. I feel like that in itself helps my waves since there's so little product in my hair, it doesn't weigh it down. That being said I don't use it by itself i use it almost like a curl enhancer. Some people think the hold is strong and use it alone, some do not. For me I use maybe a dimes worth biosilk gellee over it on day one for more hold especially if I diffuse. As to your other concerns, I don't believe it has oils in it, and i know it doesn't have polyquats but it does have aloe which bothers some curlies. HTH

It was a waste of time and money for me.

I'm fine haired and possibly high porosity (I don't know how to fisure it out once and for all).

Thanks for the answers so far! Sounds very promising :-) Curious to hear more.

Claudine, why was it a waste of money for you? With regards to porosity: I discovered my hair has low porosity because it doesn't absorb anything. For example, when I spray water on my hair to re-wet it, I see all these beads of water just sit on it. The same goes for many other things (oils in particular). It just sits on my hair. I did the slide test as well but found it very difficult to determine my hair's porosity that way.

Oh, that's helpful to know! Thank you.

My hair soaks very easily. In fact, this explains why I hate being out in the rain; my hair starts dripping down my face and neck almost immediately.

As for KCCC, it soaked into my hair to the extent that it literally took about 14 hours to dry.

I'm a pretty high porosity girl, but baby fine curls and KCCC works great for me, even with a leave in underneath.

Anyone else who'd like to share her experiences?

Someone suggested I'd try Pattern Pusha and after having done my research, I'm not sure. People seem to like Pattern Pusha, but prefer KCCC over it (generally speaking). There were also a lot of comparisons to the Ecostylers. It seems that these are more readily available in the Netherlands for way less money (€25,- for 8 oz KCCC vs. €3,95 for any Ecostyler 16 oz) but I'm not sure about the Ecostyler. Obviously I should get one without oils, but what holds me back is that people say Ecostylers weigh your hair down more than KCCC does. My hair already weighs down very easily so that's why I'm guessing the Ecostyler might not be right for me. If anyone has some experiences in this regard, please let me know.

I like more volume to my hair, and could NOT use KCCC. It made my hair feel very product-like and weighed down(like it just sat on top of my hair). It also took a few hours to dry with diffusing and several hours if air drying. I just dont have that much time. I use to use CJ PPgel for slip. But it had no hold for me and it elongated my waves. Not something I want. Never tried ecostyler. You might be better trying Biosilk rock hard gelee. Im still using okra gel, but barely getting 2nd day hair with the Florida weather. Might try out biosilk RHG again.hmmm.

Hair loves moisture protein.

My hair dose NOT like oils, butters or polyquats Or glycerin in high dews
Hmm, quite the opposite of what I want. Lots of people talk about shrinkage which would actually be fine with me.

I'll do some research on BRHG because I've seen that a lot of people use that.

Thanks for your reply, Shelly!

If you are looking for hold, then CJ PPgel in my opinion is a med/soft hold gel. CJ curl queen is a medium while Biosilk is definitely a hard. The new deva gel (ultra defining) is a hard hold gel I heard. Not sure if you can get samples of those. If you want to pay for the samples and shipping, I could send you some(of the Biosilk, CJ PPgel and Deva gel)to try. How are you liking the AO GPB conditioner?

Hi Shelly!

I'm not sure about CJ PP. I got a PM this week from someone who wanted to swap it but after doing some research, I'm not entirely convinced if that's the right product for me. I'm a bit wary when it comes to CJ now that I've had almost all products not really working for me. Also, I have CQ and it's okay, but lacks hold so I think I want something with a stronger hold.

I haven't had much time since your reply to research BRHG, but I've seen it a lot on the forum and most people seem to love it and use it over KCCC. I'll have to look into it when I come back from uni later today (having breakfast right now, 07:41 am here), but I'm pretty enthusiastic and though pricey, it's quite easy to get, especially compared to the other products. I just might want to try them both.

Thanks for the kind offer! It's tempting but I know shipping to the Netherlands is expensive, so I'd better get full size products then.

So far I'm liking AO GPB. I had a pretty okay hair day yesterday for a first day (posted a picture in this topic 2C/3A fine/low por - want to try PT?) and I'm curious to see how today goes. It's still trying and I have to leave for uni now (which sucks because my hair looks terrible when I ride my bike while it's still wet) and it rains (which is a good thing when my hair is already dry...). We'll see, keep you posted!

Hi PomegranateGirl! I know, I intend to order it via iHerb. Shipping is only $4,- over there (without track & trace though and it takes a few weeks). Thanks for the tip though! I don't think I can use your code since I'm already registered as a customer, but I'm not sure. With regards to KCCC, do you have any pros or cons?

Shelly, you never guess. I did my research on BRHG and discovered that it's not only easy to order it on a Dutch webshop, but I can even get it in store. I couldn't believe that, but I went there and asked them for a sample. I can't wait to try it! Hope it works for me, would be great to be able to get something right from the store instead of having to order online and wait for weeks :-D

Now I'm just wondering... I probably won't wash my hair until upcoming Tuesday. Shall I just try it tomorrow without any of my other styling products or wait until Tuesday? I'm a bit impatient but washing my hair before that will kill my curls. I'm also wondering how much I will have to use, so if you have any tips, please let me know.

Anyone else who can chime in or can tell me more about KCCC, please reply :-)

It has a lot of hold for me. Too much. It leaves my hair hard and crunchy and I can't scrunch it out. It defines my hair well but I don't like that hard as a rock feeling. I have fine, low porosity hair. I use Shea moisture curling soufflé instead in tiny amounts
Medium texture, normal porosity, normal elasticity
I've looked at the SheaMoisture Curling Souffle as well. I'm very tempted because it sounds wonderful, but it has shea butter in it (heavy, I was told) and several oils. I don't dare take the risk because my hair weighs down easily. Is it heavy? What do you think about the souffle?

In general: I'm wondering whether KCCC works for curlies with longer hair. I haven't really given it much thought but can anyone comment?

My hair gets easily weighed down and I personally prefer the sheamoisture soufflé. (Note, my hair loves coconut oil) I feel like I get more definition with it, it turns my waves into almost curls, and I also use a tiny amount. If you use more than a tiny amount, at least for me and my fiancee, it does turn out to have a gross, hard/oily feeling.

Also I can work with the soufflé more while its wet, it lets me scrunch, rake, and mess with my hair more. Kccc has almost a flash drying effect with me that I don't love. Once I put it in my hair I can't rake to reform curls if any get weird on me without more water. I don't like that part but I still get fabulous curls with it.

i like thatI can even overnight plop using the souffle, i think its because i can manipulate my hair more while its drying when i use it.I can sort of make it work with kccc but not as predictable results.

I love both and I don't think you would go wrong trying either one. Also I second the brhg suggestion, that stuff is amazing. I use it over everything.
