Default Dawn in your hair??

I have a curly friend who's "accidentally" CG. She uses a low poo and a cone free gel - all purely coincidentally. (If she used the techniques for styling her hair would be AMAZING.)

Anyhow, every now and then she adds 2-3 drops of Dawn dish soap to her shampoo!!! (She's accidentally clarifying!! Lol!)

She says it "de-gunks" her hair, and gives it shine and volume.

So what say you, curlies? 2-3 drops of Dawn?? Something about it makes my cringe... But 2 drops is probably a small enough amount it wouldn't overly strip it?

This made me cringe! Lol it's like the whole time I began the natural journey, I kept reading: NO SULFATES! And I am conditioned (ahem no pun intended lol) to always stay away from anything sulfates. But I don't think it's all that bad. I mean 2 drops isn't a lot and maybe that's all the hair needs to truly start on a clean slate.

I know!!! The logic is there - can't be that bad once in a great while - but I just can't! Lol!

When I was prepping a car to apply a special car protection system, they recommended washing with Dawn to remove all wax and anything else that might be on the paint/clear coat. Now, think about using the same thing on your hair!

Umm well I use dawn and vinegar to clean out my shower drain when it gets gunky. After about 20 minutes its clean. So if its strong enough to clean a drain I'm not putting it in my hair

I know!! I totally agree! And I'm by even thinking about doing it!

Though I will say that 2 drops mixed with low poo or co-wash is probably diluted enough that it wouldn't cause issues.

Still. I just can't!!

I laughed at this Jas. I wont even let Dawn touch my hands. I wear my sexy yellow gloves. And my hair... Nooooo. Maybe if I got sprayed by a skunk??? LOL

I don't think it would be that bad. If it's safe enough to go on my skin, it's probably safe enough to go on my hair. And also, dawn advertises that it's what is used on wildlife after oil spills to clean the oil off of their fur/wings. I guess that means that it dries pretty clean and isn't hazardous.

I probably won't use that because I have a low poo. But if I needed a cheap clarifying wash I could do worse.

Interesting. I think it might be worth a try at least.

I tried this when I had locs. A bud said she used it and all lint, dirt and grease came out and her hair was so fresh and so clean clean.

I tried it on my freeformed, oil only for sheen locs... It felt like straw. For about 2 MONTHS!!!

I just can't see myself doing that to my loose curls. LoL!
