Question Applying Products while Wet or Damp?

So, curlies, I don't know if my hair should be wet (not sopping) or damp before applying products. I know my hair cannot be SOPPING wet, because my hair gets crazy weighed down. I look better when my hair has more volume.

My hair's properties might help.

Type: 3a
Porosity: low
Width: med
Density: med.

I think every head is different. I've changed my technique over the past several months, but this what I'm doing now and having the most consistent hair days to date.

I rake in my leave in while still in the shower
Then I take my Aquis towel and drape it over my head and gently press down all over which absorbs any excess water
Then I dry my body
Then I rake in my products upside down and go immediately into a plop with a micro turban
After 10-15 mins, diffuse til dry

I like damp cos wet my hair just drips the product out and weighs my hair down

Classic Curly Girl technique is wet to sopping, that is what encourages clumping and discourages frizz. You can then scrunch the excess water out with your hands so your hair is not super weighed down, and can immediately follow that with gently scrunching even more out with a towel if you wish. Watch YouTube videos from Devachan salon or Jessicurl to see what I mean.

To get more volume do all your washing and product application and scrunching out water upside down, even lightly comb the roots when upside down so they face 'up' before you apply products. If you do all that whilst upside down by the time you turn right way up you won't be weighed down. Clipping is also useful for volume.

I rake in my leave in and sealer on sopping wet hair. Then I plop it while I'm getting dressed, and scrunch gel in it when it's wet but not dripping.

I scrunch with leave in and plop with a normal towel for a about 10mins before scrunching in styling product and plopping with a micro fibre towel...

I seem to loose curl if I add styling product when wet...

I styled my hair while wet instead of damp today... not too pleased. I had even more halo frizz. Fortunately, I had time to fix it today. Going back to my old routine.

I put gel in sopping wet hair, scrunch, plop in a turban towel for about 30 min, air dry for about 30 min with claw clips on top to give lift, diffuser dry for a few min and scrunch for volume.

It takes some experimenting to find what works. Hope you find it soon!
