Anyone use Aloe Vera gel to seal?

if so, are you useing more, less or none as the weather gets warmer and more humid? I am not sure what to do about this step in my routine, as I am new to using it as a sealer but as soon as the weather changed, I stated having hair issues....again...
Aloe vera is a humectant not a sealer since it is water based/ soluble, do you mean you are using it as a styler?

No, I am using it after my conditioner and before my styling products. But it may be, that as a humectant, it is pulling too much moisture out of the air, and into my hair, and that for the summer, maybe I dont use it.
I'm a big supporter of sealing, but I don't see how aloe would be a sealer. The point of sealing is to form a barrier to "lock" moisture in, and "block" out excess environmental moisture. The only thing that can do that, is oils.

Some lighter ones would be grape seed, jojoba, or sweet almond oil. You can use tiny amounts and see if that helps.

Of course you know I'm practically the spokeswoman for MO - LOL! But I can say I have used GSO as a refresher and it was wonderfully light and smoothing! I've yet to try it as a sealer, but I intend to, as I've heard several people love it for that purpose.

Chloe, some of us cannot use oil because of low porosity, the oil sits on the hair and is not absorbed. AVG as a "sealer" may be the wrong term per se, but another member suggested using it after my conditioner, and it was working well until the weather changed. I am just trying to figure out what to do next to prevent frizz in the warm weather and higher humidity. Jas, what is GSO?
oh, OK, its grape seed oil.

I purchased GSO and it was still too heavy on my hair. I use it on my body now. I've settled on the few oils in my conditioner to be sealy enough for me. Anything extra just my makes my hair greasy and limp and resistant to conditioner.

Of course I have finer hair, so maybe you'll have different results. The great think about oils are that they are super cheap, so it won't hurt to much to try.
Some people seal with butters instead of oils. And I know some have used products with oils in them - SM soufflť, for one, or the smoothie.

Sorry to hear that hair is acting up again, Myrna. And yes I was about to suggest it might be AVG's humectant properties. (Too much of a good thing?) Especially if the problem you're dealing with is frizz. Might also be a combination of that and the glycerin in the Curl Keeper. Oh, and guys, when I said using AVG to "seal" I didn't mean in the traditional sense of just adding a barrier to the elements, I meant coaxing the cuticle to close so that your hair won't be vulnerable to the elements. It has to with it being slightly acidic and having just the right PH. It's why I add aloe to my FSG and why my hair likes KCCC so much, I believe. I also always look for it in ingredient lists and add a few drops to my leave in when I'm styling my hair near the fridge. (I keep my AVG in the fridge as it's the natural kind.) Also I know people can and do use AVG as their styler. I tried it but it didn't have quite enough hold.

I also recommend GSO for sealing. I like it just as much as jojoba.

Dusalocks, funny you say that because I actually used AVG as my "styler" tonight. I use SM CSM and they some AVG on top. I had great shiny clumps and they are super soft. I am sure I would need more hold if I was going outside (in FL humidity), but I was in for the night and didn't want to use gel or anything extra on my hair.

If I used AVG as my styler, do you think it would be ok to add some hard hold gel on top?
