Question What is My Hair Width!?

I seriously need help determining my hair's width... my mother and sister say my hair is fine, but I am not so sure because I can see my shedded hair plain as day on the sink or in the shower... but I also think that could also be because it is so dark in color. (it dark, near-black brown.)

However, my stylist told me that the mousse I was using wasn't 'strong enough for my texture'...? Not sure what that means?

Please help!

People have different definition for texture. Some people use texture as the thickness of the strand and others as the look/feel of the hair.

But if you want to see if your hair is coarse, take a thread and divide the thread in halves. If your hair is thinner is fine, if it's the same it's medium and if it's thicker it's coarse. I have very coarse strands and my eyelashes and eyebrows are also coarse (I sometimes bleed for a millisecond after plucking eyebrow hairs). Try comparing it to your mom or sister's hair if you're still unsure.

The difficulty with hair width is that we need a frame of reference. Most curlies actually have fine hair. I was absolutely baffled when I discovered my hair is fine (I thought it was coarse - boy, was I wrong!).

One way to get a frame of reference is to compare it to the hair down there.
