Question Question about using a curl iron?

So recently i decided to start using a curling iron on the front bits of my hair to make the curls looser and i love how it looks...however, it doesnt really stay in. how do you keep the curls from falling out. i considered hair spray but isnt spray not good for hair? suggestions!

TBH the curling iron is likely more harmful than hairspray!
2a-2c, medium texture, porous/ colour treated. Three years CG, growing out mechanical and chemical damage = breakage and very high porosity. Past armpit length heading for waist.

CO-wash: Inecto coconut
Treatments: Komaza Matani, coconut oil, Hairveda Sitrinillah
Leave in: Fructis Sleek & Shine (old), Gliss ultimate volume, Inecto argan
Styler: Umberto Giannini jelly, Boots Essentials gel
Experimenting with: going back to basics

well my hair is in good condition, i deep condition regularly, and i love how it looks...besides if the curling iron is bad for my hair, then why make it worse with hairspray?
