So I got CJ CIAB in a swap and so far I'm liking it...and by so far I mean a day, so yeah .

It's not chunky and drying the way most gels are.
It's a lot more effective than FSG or Okra...which make my hair frizzy and stringy and crunchy.
It has a light pleasant smell.
It distribute easily through my hair, which is a necessity for thick hair.
It's not crunchy!!! I keep getting products that other people refer to as medium hold and not crunchy, but on me they have super hold. This feels like medium hold to me. I'm not sure how people put it on top of gel though or use it to scrunch out crunch?

It's defining, which is nice, cause the front of my hair can be prone to being looser than the back.

I'm actually really excited to try it without a leave in. The woman on YT, who's hair looks SO much like mine, has even more success with it alone. Does anyone here use it like this, without a leave-in?

Sure you can. Especially if you have a strong curl pattern. And really you can and should try whatever you want. Wavies layer a gel or maybe even a cream and a gel over it. Yet I know a wavy who swaps that completely around and finds it works better.

I use it as a defrizzer and definer, over leave-in and under mousse. It has no hold whatsoever in my hair and I've found this is the best routine for me.
Enjoy your experimenting!

It's one of only two gel-like products that I use too. My hair doesn't like regular gels at all, hence the mousse. It's not too expensive as, sadly, my hair is on the thin side and fairly short so I don't use much product.
I watched the video after I'd posted, I couldn't believe the amount she used, must cost her an arm and a leg! I use about two teaspoons worth.

Yeah, when you have a lot of hair that's just life. You get used to it. My hair is short, but I have a lot of it.
She isn't using any other products though, so you have to take that into account.

I don't use as much product though, because I hate the feeling. Also I think being low porosity helps. My hair doesn't soak up product. If I'm patient and let think distribute and work, my bottles can last a month - month and half. Shampoo lasts forever though. I can't even imagine finishing my low poo in six months.

I use CIAB as a frizz-prevention product - a serum. This is my go-to serum in cooler (low dewpoints) weather. When it gets really hot and humid (high dews), I prefer Curls Gel-les'c.

I scrunch in about a dime to nickel worth of product (depending on the length of my hair) right before diffusing. If I forget to use it, I notice. I will get surface frizz that I never get when I use one of these two products.

I don't find CIAB has any hold.

ROUTINE: LI, enhancer, gel, plop with Curlease towel, serum product (either CIAB or Gel-les'c), clip & diffuse.
Too many favourite products to list ... I finally have my routine that works and alot of products to choose from. My product stash is huge, but well loved !!!
