Default Products for fine/normal porosity/normal elasticity

I recently received my results from Live Curly, Live free, which told me that I have Fine/normal porosity/normal elasticity hair. The results mainly told me to use products with protein & avoid heavy emollients. I wasn't sure what to look for & avoid ingredient wise, so I purchased her book hoping for more specific instructions. While the book had a lot of good info and I am glad I read it, I am still kind of lost as to what I should be looking for. Right now, I seem to be getting the best results with Deva Nopoo, 1cond., FSG & Deva UDG. However I would love to branch out into cheaper alternatives for my hair type. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I have the same hair properties so here are some hair products I've been playing around with.

I wash once a week with Shea moisture sulfate free shampoo (I tried co-washing with suave coconut and vo5 but I was washing every other day due to scalp issues so I switched to the Shea moisture once a week and its been working very well). I use tresseme naturals conditioner for my RI. I've been using Loreal Eversleek conditioner as my only LI but I recently decided that its over conditioning my hair (I use it everyday) and have been using LA looks sports gel instead which I really like. I will say being a fined hair curly has its challenges...it's been an adventure trying to find products that help with frizz but don't weigh my hair down. So I think trial and error is probably your best bet.

If you don't know what ingredients constitute a protein or an emollient, there are some very useful articles on the main NC site - especially those by 'curl chemist' Tonya McKay - and probably stuff liked to from the forum stickies too. You could also use the Neutral Protein Filler mentioned in your signature to doctor cheap products.

Puffff- thank you! I'll have to try some of those & see if I have any luck.

Firefox- Thank you as well. I am looking for the article you recommended, but have not found then yet. I'm still new and trying to figure out how to navigate the main site. I'll keep looking though.

Ok girls... Anyone needing to change routine now that weather is changing? My routine in my siggy was great for months an then it was like I hit awall. All of a sudden my heir felt gross... Not getting good curl pattern, feeling greasy, etc. I got 3 day hair regularly...and occasional 4 day hair! Now imwashing every other day with different product combos and not having much luck. I knew I'd need to tweak my routine..but I thought it would be more or less moisture, or more or less gel.... Not go from glossy bouncy curls to nasty hair girl! Help!

What's happening to dew points where you are? At this time of year, that usually the clue.

Air is dry.. Dew points are lower than they were in the summer... Here's a link with a chart near the bottom if that helps. Today I used cj repair me as my conditioner with much better results then I've had in a couple weeks.http://weatherspark.com/averages/308...-United-States

I also used oasis moisture gel the other day and I think that's worth tying again once I get the washing and conditioning right.

So your dew point is 39F (and not expected to go above 41F in the next 24 hrs.), which is in the low range. Going by Live Curly, Live Free, the short answer is that would mean that you need more conditioner, and less gel.

Default YUCK

My hair is totally gross. My best day so far was washing with SM coconut and hibiscus, and conditioning with CK Satin Roots (leave in- i know but i'm trying everything in my stash at this point) and no other product.

It was nice and silky, curls were somewhat loose but looked nice... I'll take it. But day 2 my scalp was a grease ball.. I was getting to the end of day 3 in the late summer before it started looking like that.

I just cant seem to figure out what ingredients to avoid now that dewpoint is so low. It will be getting even lower now that we're heading into winter. I'm in north Iowa.

Darcy's Pumpkin Seed was by far a HG for me right off the bat - May - September. Then all of a sudden it makes my hair feel nasty and greasy. Is it possible that the conditioner went bad?

Here are the ingredients in case anyone is an ingredient expert and can help me pinpoint something. I'm just at a loss. Thanks!!

Darcy's Pumpkin Seed Conditioner -
Distilled Water, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cucurbita Pepo (Pumpkin) Seed Oil, Cocos Nucifera (Organic Virgin Coconut Oil), Camellia Oleifera Seed Oil, Cetyl Alcohol, Extracts of Avena Sativa (Oatstraw), Urtica Dioica (Nettle Leaf), Symphytum Officinale (Comfrey), Salvia, Officinalis (Sage), & Juniperus Communis (Juniper Berry), Panthenol, Hydrolyzed Oat Protein, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol and Fragrance.
Ingredient Attributes: moisture, anti-humectant

It's oil heavy so I might stick with it only for dc's...
