I'm just going to restart maybe thursday because I have yet to wash my hair and it is still in its flat ironed state. ( Procrastination nation)

Not really hair related (even though your hair looks great) but Musical Junkie, you have great skin!

Ok. This is one of those "why did I start this topic??" sort of days. Haha.

3rd day hair, straight out of my nighttime pineapple:
7 Day Challenge - who's up for it?-imageuploadedbycurltalk1370391831.795154.jpg

I wasn't impressed, had no time to mess with it, and I had to run to my musical rehearsal (I'm the director), so I just threw it up in a bun and left it for the day.

Default Day 2

Bad day 2. You can see the massive amounts of frizz in this photo. I washed my hair last night, diffused dry and slept in a pineapple which fell out. In the morning I spritzed it damp with water and added KC Spiral Spritz. This picture is at the end of the day after mowing the lawn, too.

Ok. Here's what I learned about curl patterns and why I stopped even paying attention to them.
There are three widely recognized curl typing systems (I don't consider the Deva system to be widely recognized). The least known of these is LOIS. It is literally based on which of those letters a strand of hair forms when it dries (ie a piece of shed hair dropped onto a flat surface).
The two systems most referenced here are Andre Walker's system and FIA. NC.com uses a system based on Andre Walker's. This system directly links curl pattern and texture, which causes questions like "I have fine hair but my curls look more 2c than 3a- what's my curl type??" According to this system, 2c hair is coarse in texture and resistant to styling. 3a hair is fine in texture and has a definite S pattern. He also notes that 3a hair tend to have a variety of curl patterns (doesn't everyone?!). Various incarnations of the curl types on NC.com have given the sidewalk chalk curl diameter for 3a, have stated that type 3 hair has definite root curl where type 2 does not, and once said that it's very easy for type 3a hair to look like 2c hair but very difficult to make 2c hair look like 3a hair without serious time, effort and manipulation. Then, to throw a wrench in the works, there's also the guideline that gets thrown around that says 3a hair needs a good amount of length (shoulder length or longer) to show its true pattern. If this isn't enough to make your head spin, remember that I still have one more system to cover...
FIA uses the same letter and number combos as Andre Walker's system, but in this case, it refers only to curl pattern. Separate characters are used to identify texture and density. According to FIA, 2c hair has a definite S shape, with the occasional full ringlet/curl mixed in. 3a is large bouncy curls, and 3b is defined ringlets. Note the lack of curl circumference requirements.
All of this for something that can change with the weather and really makes absolutely no difference in product selection... So that's my rant for the day. Hopefully this helps a bit

Man, just reading that gives me a headache. Sometimes I think those stupid typing systems wind up dividing us rather than uniting us. I wish the forums were more focused on texture. And not all texture is uniform either. For instance, I have coarse textured hair and my hair holds a style really well. I don't know where they get that coarse hair doesn't. It's thick so it might take longer to style but it's also quite malleable because it's thick.

Anyways, reporting in now it's some hours later and my hair is washed and dry. Day 1 hair. I did a styling experiment to break the monotony. (By that I mean a new combo.) Leave in - 50/50 mix of SM's Restorative Conditioner/Yucca Baobab Conditioner. Sealer - jojoba oil. Styler - Curl Keeper.

That's nice to hear. Yeah, my brother had a hard time of it during his teenage years and he didn't have the option of cosmetics. It must be good quality then.

Aw, thank you! I'm very happy with my fringe/bangs (is there a difference?) and it seems to suit my face very well.

Day 2 follow-up:
I already wrote what I did in my previous post, but just briefly: I re-wet (or rinsed because they failed to do that properly at the hair salon) my hair, applied FSG, plopped for about 45 minutes, undid the plop and let it air dry. I did all this around 12:10 and took the picture at 16:10. Hair is not entirely dry. No SOTCing because it wasn't dry enough at that point. Weather was the same as earlier that day.

Grade: 5/5,5

Day 1,
After washing, and PT, last night I used KCKT and EVOO and tried to pineapple, one in the back, and one in the front (unicorn horn style).
This morning I took out the Two pineapples and shook it out. No more product or refreshing.

Day 3. More random combos. CJ DF, Mop Top Daily Conditioner (left some in). Curlisto Structura Lotion and Control Gell II. Plop, scrunch, air dry. Did SOTC too soon, but it didn't hurt too much this time. Overall, another average air drying day. 6 out of 10. 7 Day Challenge - who's up for it?-imageuploadedbycurltalk1370442553.448272.jpg

Day 3: much better today, Gelatin PT last night and DT with garner triple nutrition dry hair reversal (something like that anyway) re wet this morning garner triple nutrition for my RO cantu Shea leave in. Shea moisture soufflé topped with gvp liquid sculpting gel. Clipped and diffused maybe 10 minutes. Pretty good day. Very little frizz after SOTC and that is good. Helps that the dews are in the mid 40's
I give it a 7 of 10 so far. We will see how it holds up for the rest of the day 7 Day Challenge - who's up for it?-imageuploadedbycurltalk1370446816.758232.jpg

Day 4; My intention was to go for 2nd day hair today, but it just wasn't meant to be (I applied a heap of fresh okra gel before bed last night, and I literally couldn't SOTC this morning- I think I added too much agave, oops!). I'm sick and didn't feel like doing my hair, so I wet it in the shower, got out, and applied Tigi Curls Rock amplifier topped with Joico JoiGel Firm, plopped for 10, and left the house. Not as much volume as I like, but I'm actually surprised that it looks as good as it does. It's strange that photos of me from the front don't look as curly- I can't seem to get the lighting right. Anyhoo....

Dew point 72 today.

Looks great! And I definitely think 3a- your hair looks about the same as mine does when I air dry (which is most of the time).

Day 3
Routine: used the shower head to make my hair wet. Applied FSG, then squished out the excess water. Plopped for about half an hour, then took it off and jumped on my bike with wet hair (07:45). SOTC with a pea sized blob of Curl Junkie Beauticurls Argan & Olive Oil conditioner.

Time of picture: 14:00.
Weather: temp 54 - humidity 86% - dew 50.
Hair grade: 6/10.

My hair feels really coated and is so stiff/sturdy that I start doubting my assessment of my hair width again. I know the coated feeling is because I let my hair dresser use Curl Queen yesterday which has a polyquat, so I'm going to wash my hair tomorrow and see what happens.

I wish my underlayers weren't this straight It shows.
