DevaCurl and Dryness

So I've been experimenting with DevaCurl products and found that OneC and the ultra defining gel don't cooperate together for me, so I tried the gel with my tresemme naturals conditioner and low and behold it worked! Great hair day all day (see pic), Now here is the issue...as the day progressed my hair started to feel dryer and dryer (still looked great just dry).Is this the products themselves or just my hair (i sent in for a live curly live free consult thing, so I'm waiting on that)? I'm going to try KCKT and KCCC together tomorrow and see how that works out. Any other styler recommendations?

Many of us start out with Deva, think we like it and then move on to other things we like a lot better. My salon has Deva. I used to let them use the lowpoo until an ingredient change about 4 years ago. Last time I was there, my product had rolled out of the bag onto the car floor. Didn't discover that until too late. I let them use the NoPoo on my hair. It was horrible! I ended up using a poo with SLS to remove whatever was on my hair (I suspect it was the polyquat.)

It all seems very water based and lightweight which may not hold water if you live in a dryer climate or have hair prone to dryness.

Are you using any oils to seal moisture in or reduce porosity? If you do not want to use straight up oils, add a little to a gel (a la Ecostyler custard) or within a leave in conditioner. What are you using for intensive conditioning, you have nothing in your signature? KCKT is a detangler not a true conditioner BTW, it contains no oils, cationic surfactants or fatty alcohols.

Great articles on ingredient families on the main NC site by 'curl chemist' Tonya McKay, the Natural Haven blog is also well worth a read.

Thanks for all the replies! Kathymack yes I noticed with the no-poo that it gave a strange filmy feeling to the hair especially if I used it twice in a 3 day period. Firefox I haven't found a good intense conditioner yet. Still looking...any suggestions? I do find that my hair can get overconditioned at times and it LOVES protein (hence my assumption of it being fine). I'm ordering some of the Shea moisture products. Is that a good idea, I noticed that they have oils in them so they should help seal in the moisture?

I live in southern Ontario, so not too hot or humid at the moment but it will be getting humid shortly. Also I'm unable to get products like ecostyler or the gvp conditioning balm (gotta go for the full priced version which I do really like) thanks again everyone!

My hair didn't care for the SM products. They were "heavy" rather than "rich," if you understand the difference. A more natural line that would be available to you is the "Yes To" products. A Canadian curly (who lives in Ontario) told me they are available at Shoppers Drug Mart.

Komaza Care protein strengthener has been reformulated to be more of a creamy intensive conditioner but you may still want to deep treat afterwards (I've only used the old formula spray). Not intensive but the Komaza Care Matani leave in conditioner has hydrolysed protein, natural oils and ceramides. Hairveda Sitrinillah deep conditioner has coconut oil and honey, rich yet lightweight, made my hair soft and the curls pop, excess rinsed away easily, no protein tho.

I'm not a fan of shea butter for hair, it's too sticky and heavy and doesn't absorb. You should be able to make an 'Ecostyler custard' with any basic gel and oil of your choice

Thanks guys! I picked up the yes to carrots conditioner and the smooth tresemme naturals conditioners. I have the Aubrey organics glycogen protein conditioner and some gelatin that I'm going to use up before getting other stuff as much as I want more! Lol plus I'm kind of waiting to hear back about my hair properties. Thanks for all your help!
