Suggestions for a protein treatment?

I am a few weeks into this CG thing and my hair doesn't seem to be any better than it was when I started. The other night I cowashed, did a 3 hour DT and then rinsed it out and followed with a nickel sized amount of KCKT and 5 drops of Argan oil. My hair like that quite a bit and seemed more moisturized but by noon the next day was dry and frizzy. I think it might be time to try a protein treatment, although I have had mixed results with protein prior to CG. I thought the Oidad 12 Minute Deep Treatment looks great, but way too expensive for a first try at protein. I also thought the SS Repairing Protein Treatment looked nice, but I can't get that on amazon and, although I want a nice pomade, I am not yet ready to purchase another $50 in products to get the free shipping from curlmart. There is a sally's nearby.....Any suggestions on a treatment?

Curl Junkie Curl Rehab doesn't contain much in the way of penetrating ingredients, it's heavy on aloe vera which is a humectant, does that suit your dew points/ humidity where you are? Also contains shea butter which doesn't suit many curlies. Given you have colour damaged hair I would use a DT based on coconut oil which is capable of penetrating the hair, reducing porosity and increasing elasticity. This might also better balance out the humectants in your Deva products (glycerin).

Probably the cheapest protein treatment is gelatin you can purchase from the grocery store, check out the DIY board for recipes. Otherwise you could purchase the Colorful Neutral Protein Filler and add that to a cheap conditioner of your choice, experimenting with different concentrations or conditioners until you find something you are happy with.

KCKT is a detangler not a true leave in conditioner, given you have colour treated hair you would likely benefit from the 'patching' properties of cationic surfactants and fatty alcohols found in proper conditioners like the One Condition - many do use this as a leave in.

I use the Joico k-pak reconstructor (sometimes I see it at tjmaxx) but there's a generic version of it at Sally's. I like it, and don't need to do a DT after. For me, it's moisturizing as well. It is loaded with mineral oil though- so if your hair doesn't like that, avoid it!

Here it is on amazon:

Sally's version:

Chloe - thanks. I used Kpak as a teen prior to color treating and didn't find it did great things for my hair. However, my hair is soooo different now so I plan to order some of this up (assuming the gelatin goes well)! Plus it is inexpensive and easy access on amazon.

Firefox - I am going to try out that gelatin treatment since it is super inexpensive and I can do it tonight. What are your thoughts on following the PT with my regular DT with some argan oil added in? I will check the grocery store for coconut oil in the beauty aisle and add that instead of the argan oil if I can find it - otherwise I have to wait for amazon.

I really need to get my hair in shape within the next few weeks b/c I have a highlight scheduled for the end of the month!

Vo5 sheacashmere(keratin), Giovanni smooth as silk (soy protein), Vo5 silky experiences "champaign and strawberries" (silk protein). Suave coconut has a small dose of silk amino acids...so if your hair can't handle heavy doses of protein, give it a shot as a PT hope this helps...
