Update: super clarifier

Sony hair has been awful lately, as some of you may recall me saying.

I did the super clarifier from Sally's - I ended up using 2 packets - one was Ion Swimmers, the other was Ion... I forget the name, Brilliant Color Or something? It's supposed to be a clarifier you use before any chemical process.

Anyhow... The first couple days my hair was FABULOUS. Since then... I still desperately need a cut. And I can't seem to get my protein/moisture balance right. One day I'm dry, one day I'm OC'd. So idk. I don't think it has anything to do with the clarifying, tho.

So I'm feeling a little discouraged.

Maybe I can get a cut soon and it'll be a miracle solution. I hope, because that's about all I have left to try! If that doesn't help I'm going to have to give up the curls, I'm afraid. I had good hair with them for 2 years, but it's been consistently bad more than good lately.

I'm so sorry for what you and your curls are going through. Please don't give up on your curls though, you have been my inspiration! You have always been so positive and uplifting and you are such a great teacher who gives such great advice.

It's a new season, so it's always a great time (and excuse) to try out new products. Maybe take a break from mineral oil for a while? Get a shower filter?

I don't know how to help but just wanted to thank you for all of your help
No!!!!!!!! Don't give up the curls! It's just a weird time- weather is changing, which means our routines are changing (swimming, etc). Your hair is just in a funk, but this too shall pass! We've missed you on the boards- I was just wondering about you this morning.

Thanks, guys! I didn't mean that to sound "whiney" - lol! I just meant it factually. If my hair is changing or something and it doesn't want to look nice curly anymore, i don't really have the time in my life to push it, you know? And I'm tired of going around feeling like I look awful, simply bc I want my hair curly. If it doesn't want to be anymore, I'm not going to fight it, you know?

But I'm not giving up yet. I've got to get a cut first! Then I'll decide. I'm hoping to get that done next week. (Wont be from my deva stylist, tho. Too expensive for me right now. :/ )

Btw... How did you miss me?? I've been around! (thanks, tho!)

I have tried cutting out the MO, that was worse! It's like it's either dry and limp or OC'd and limp. Can't seem to find that happy medium lately.

I've been experimenting with some new products and combinations... But I think it's just my hair is out of whack right now.

Jas, don't give up. Everyone (at least I do) goes through bad hair day periods. There are so many factors that influence your curls, either internal (like hormones, stress) or external (too many to name).

Getting a cut sounds like a good idea. Even though you're not going to your Deva stylist, just make sure you're really clear about what you want and what you definitely don't want.

You shouldn't push anything. One thing I've learned here is embracing the curls I have instead of trying to get them to be more curly. To me, the most important thing is that they look healthy. I spend about 10-15 minutes on my hair if I don't wash it (I wash my hair once or twice a week, depending on what it needs), so you don't necessarily have to spend a lot of time, I guess. Then ago, my curls don't look perfect. I don't know where I'm going, actually.

Just don't give up because they look gorgeous. Perhaps try this thread: 7 Day Challenge - who's up for it? It has been really motivating to see that what we consider bad hair days aren't that bad to others. Also, people just might have advice based on your picture and routine.

What if you give up on your curls for a few days or a week, and then see how you feel? You might miss them; I know I did when my hair grew out and wasn't layered enough to show my botticelli curls (being type 2, they're always underneath the heavier top layer).

It's okay to mix things up. But if you're a wavy/curly, chances are that unless you heat straighten, they're going to reassert themselves anyway.

Regardless, best wishes. My own hair has looked really dumb lately.

Thanks, everyone! So supportive! And I wasn't even looking for that!

Today I co-washed and did a short DT. Curls are skittle better right now, but we'll see how they hold up by the end of the day.

Really my biggest point was that the clarifier really did help, but then I was having DIFFERENT problems with my hair after that. So I'd recommend those products as a clarifying treatment!

Since my hair has been limp and OC'd or limp and dry (nothing in between), perhaps I'd just been over-correcting or something.

I'm going to schedule a haircut next week and hopefully that will make a big difference!

I certainly want to get this under control before we leave for our trip to England!
