Of course, Chloe! I'd be more than happy to be a contributor to the community that has help me achieve the hair I have today. I will post as soon as I have made another batch.

Sent from my Nexus 4 using CurlTalk App
-2b waist-length hair (ringlets in the front and canopy, straighter under-layer)
-Dense head of med-coarse strands
-Low porosity

Pretty pleased with the okra! Next time I think I will add Epsom to see how it works too! I have used it in FSG with mixed results, should I add it to the water while boiling or after straining.
This is just the okra gel with nothing on top.

Please ignore the odd look. I hate taking selfies but I'm at work and the mirror isn't big enough to take pics of the back

Looks great! I added the salt after the mixture had cooled for a few minutes, but was still warm.

I made my first batch today. I used fresh okra, xanthum gum, citric acid, agave nectar and sweet almond oil. Mines quite liquidy ?? Not to keen on the scent either But I added some lavender eo, so this has helped a bit. I will try it tomorrow, finders crossed it works

Just wasn't sure if I should try to dissolve it in some warm water first you never know. Wasn't an issue with FSG because it was added while boiling. Thanks for your help

Sounds good! I will give it a shot. So far I am liking the okra better in the way it distributes. The flax was so...... Gooey? It sticks to itself really well and makes it a bit tougher to get it distributed evenly. Bit I need to tweak my recipe or figure out what I am putting in underneath. My hair feels a little producty today, not sure if it is the okra or my leave in..... Or that I didn't wash this morning, just re wet and added stuff. Try again tomorrow. I made a pretty small batch to start since I am experimenting so I will be making more tomorrow night.

Subscribed to this post last week so I can order all of my supplies as soon as I get back from my cruise.

Does anyone add any protein to their okra gel? I was planning to order silk amino acids for my gelatin PT so I was curious if anyone has tried this or another protein in okra gel (or even FSG).

I have added gelatin to my FSG for thickening and protein. Works great!! Just dissolved it it some warm water before I whisked it in. Might try with the okra. So much experimenting to do lol

Love to read everyone's ideas on okra gel. It is truly my HG. You can add ingredients to the okra mix just as you would to FSG batch. I add guar gum for my thickner and magnesium flakes right after I have strained, while it's still hot.

I agree with kathymack on sucragel being a great additive. It just give great shine to my hair.

I feel that my 2nd day hair can also feel products if I reapply too much okra gel that morning. I feel sometimes that just 're-wetting reactivated the gel. The first day you can use a hearty amount, but 2nd is minute amounts.

Was wondering if anyone has tried honey instead of agave nectar. I wouldn't mind using something that mighte help lighten up my hair up a bit. It's soo dark, you really can't see my curls

My hair dose NOT like oils, butters or polyquats Or glycerin in high dews
Here are some pics using the Okra gel and Volumax mega gel over the top. This is my best waves so far, only been back to cg for about 3 weeks First one is after slightly combed roots, as I'm still trying to sort out my crown and roots, they get very flat

I agree with you on the FSG. Thsts why I went crazy for the okra gel. Its just a better product for my hair. Easy to distribute and make

I used 3cups distilled water and placed 2TBSP of marshmallow root in water. Let it seep for a few hours then added 1TBSP of each: horsetail, nettle, and burdock to water. I used frozen sliced okra, a cup full, and the low boiled it for 30mins.

I then strained and added my ingredients. Got a 2cup yield, so I doubled the amounts as listed below since these are all per 8oz or 1 cup yield of product. ..

After I strain I immediately added:
1/4 tsp of magnesium flakes(enhancer)
1/4+1/8 tsp of agave nectar(1/2 left my hair too coated, like KCCC did)
1/2 tsp sucragel(shine)
1/4 tsp vit E oil(preservative)
1/4 tsp citric acid(preservative)
1/4 tsp potassium sorbate, (presrrvative)
1/2 tsp guar gum...PLEASE NOTE YOU MUST USE SOME KIND OF THICKENER...

I'm thinking of using honey instead of agave nectar in my nect batch and maybe just a few drops of grapeseed oil. Since its not even full summer yet in FL :!

I keep one 3oz bottle in fridge and others in freezer. Just to be on the safe side

Help me out here. Are honey and agave considered humectants?? If yes what are my alternatives to increase hold? I am in Colorado and we are lucky to get dews above 40 it is so dry and I think I should avoid humectants. I have already cut glycerin. Any ideas??
