Do you have a sample pic of someone's hair showing what you mean?
You can see my wavy tutorials here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...ZNxhBHSXAW40OQ and my wavy blog is The Wavy Nation http://wavynation.wordpress.com

Isn't curly hair kind of naturally piecy? Like, in the sense that each strand wants to go off and do it's own curly thing. What's the difference between piecyness and clumping?

I think I should have said "defined"instead of piecey
To get defined curls, it is all in for you handle the hair. Detangle in the shower with conditioner in it. Then apply the styler (I scrunch it in, being gentle). When you do this, most hair will clump together and if you handle it carefully, they will stay together. Many of us here use a gel as a styler.

Summer: pink; Winter: Blue; Year Round: green
Lo-Poo:Giovanni SAS sulfate free poo, L'Oreal Evercream CC

RO/LI:

I think the amount of clumping depends on 1- your natural curl pattern (wavy/curly vs kinky), 2- making sure your hair is wet enough when applying products, 3- using enough product, and 4- not touching it too much while its drying.
