Help with styling technique

So I'm looking for some suggestions on technique. This is what I'm currently doing...

-wetting hair or stepping out of shower and put hair in microfibre towel
-walk to bedroom, take hair out of towel, apply LI
-use widetooth comb to comb through and distribute
-apply curl creme (if any) and use denman brush to clump curls and shape hair
-apply gel or gel like product rake it in, scrunch bottoms and scrunch with tshirt to remove any remaining drips

I really like the shape of my hair and I get just enough volume but I really want to not have to brush/comb my hair to style...I also find I lose a lot of my root curl and the volume on top of my head. I'm going for a Deva cut on Wednesday and I'm sure I'll get some styling suggestions from them but I was wondering if anyone with similar hair could pitch in some suggestions thanks all

I didn't find the newer Curly Book all that informative, but the DVD was worth the price. I could never use the copious amount of product they do. But it really shows you how to handle your hair.

My hair is low porosity, so only tangles if I use an ingredient it doesn't like. I only finger comb--and gently, at that. I stopped with the wide tooth comb in the shower and finally gave away the Denman brush so I'd stop trying to get it to work.

Hopefully, the Deva stylist will be able to help you with technique and shape your hair so it needs minimal assistance from you, LOL!

I would experiment by bringing your leave in, cream and gels into the shower area with you. After you turn the water off, immediately apply your LI and comb or finger comb through. Then apply your cream or gel, and rake then scrunch it all in. Then use your towel.

I stopped using a comb or Denman outside of the shower since I always lost root curl when I used them after the water was turned off.

The scrunch n pump method works the best for root curl, in my opinion. And also, applying products upside down helps with volume.

Kathymack, you believe it is the low porosity that makes your hair not tangle? I get very few tangles and the ones I get are very easy to remove without a lot of slip. I've wondered why but never thought it would be connected to porosity. Plus, I thought I was normal to high porosity! Lol

Have any of you found that scrunching caused more frizz? Whenever I try to scrunch my hair especially when wet I always get more frizz on my roots and in my curls (it's almost like my hair is being forced a way it doesn't want to go). Hence why I like raking but then I lose root curl and volume in general.

Kathymack did you find the old video on KCCC to be helpful? If so could you describe the gist of it because they video isn't up anymore and I think I remember it being kind of helpful back in the day when I first tried CG,

Do you think it would be better to take in my products upside down and the plop? Would the plop maybe act like scrunching without the added frizz?

Does your hair take a long time to dry? When I worked and didn't use product, it took my hair 5+ hours to dry after a few minutes diffusing. Now, I wrap a Curlease towel around it while I dress and do make up, scrunch with a CLU towel and then diffuse. After that, it's still several hours.

It's been many years since I saw the KCCC video. I think she scrunched the KCCC in sections (sides, top, etc.) while leaning from side to side.

I'm pretty sure I have normal porosity on the verge of high. It takes couple hours for my hair to dry and it isn't hard to get rid of tangles (I also don't get a ton of them and they aren't too bad).

I find any motion like scrunching creates frizz in my hair. With normal to high porosity do you need to add more products (is that why I'm more prone to frizz) I find even the hardest hold of products are extremely easy to scrunch out especially with LI.
