Default Is anyone able to go out in high humidity and retain frizz free curls?

Yesterday was beyond humid here. After being outside, i noticed that the only part of my hair that looked good was the bottom (underside) layers. Nice clumpy defined curl. The rest of it became a frizz fest, as usual. Is anyone able to survive that kind of weather with nice curls intact??

The weather has no effect on my hair. It's the same all year, all seasons, all weather. At least I THINK it is. LoL!

I never lived in real humidity, but rainy weather has no effect on my hair and I don't see any seasonal change.

That sounds just like my hair. It's exactly what I'm trying to understand and work on!

I live in FLorida, and the humidity definitely effects my hair. I have to completely change my products between winter and summer.

Can you tell us your routine now? What products you're using?

For me, the biggest thing is I have to eliminate glycerin in my styling products (and it's found in almost everything!). If it's pretty far down on the list, it's okay.

I always end up with frizz when it's humid, doesn't matter what I do. I don't even try any more, just put it in a ponytail and try not to think about it. Thankfully I live in a very dry climate.

I use the SM curl enhancing smoothie on my ends & style with the curl milk. It has glycerin in it but its in the middle if the ingredient list. It works with this TX humidity which can be hellacious at times especially between July - October. Yes it's still hot in October.

Hi there! I've lived in Florida as well as Singapore. No, never got completely frizz-free, but the CG method did help to drastically reduce frizz. I absolutely cannot use glycerin based styling products in the humidity. If the glycerin is further down or listed after an anti-humectant it can be ok but generally I have to stay away from glycerin.

Technique is also important in eliminating frizz, rising with cold water, gently squeezing out hair with an old cotton tshirt and not touching while drying have made the biggest difference.

At the end of the day you may still have a little frizz, just roll with it.

I visited my grandma recently and she has super frizzy hair that she puts up in a beehive-ish bun and it looks super cute! It made me think that frizz isn't always so bad, sometimes it can even have its charm!

There's a high dew point thread floating around, I'm on my phone now though so I can't really fish it.

The sm curl enhancing smoothie is an anti-humectant. It helps me deal with frizz. But remembering not to touch my hair while drying is so hard especially when the front won't act right. *le sigh*

I can get mostly frizz free hair by avoiding glycerin and keeping my protein-moisture balance right. If it rains for three days though ....

I have found that smoothing damp hands over the canopy helps to lay those buggers back down and reactivates my gel enough to keep them down for awhile. If I'm doing a braid or 'up-do' I wet my hands and add a squirt of spray gel, mix it on my hands and smooth over the canopy. This really helps tame fly-aways and keeps my hair in place longer.

I also live in FL, and I think being completely frizz free is next to impossible...but reducing frizz is achievable. One really good trick I learned from the site is using rubber gloves to apply my products and SOTC. This helps reduce the frizz friction caused by our hands. and of course finding your protein-moisture balance. Good . Luck

Can someone post a list of glycerin free products? This is a good thread. I am having trouble finding g-free products!

I use kckt and kccc. My hair looks great when i am done styling, inside in the AC. But the humidity doesnt only frizz it, but causes all the curl/wave to droop.

For me, adding protein really helps. My hair was worse then usual with the deluge we had last week. When I thought about it, I hadn't done a PT. Took care of that and my hair was MUCH better yesterday. Of course, it was just humid and didn't rain every where.

Tomorrow will be another test, so I'll see what happens. I've been playing around with Sea Kelp Bioferment. It's similar to SeaMollient--but different. I'm liking it a lot as an ingredient and a first layer product.

Point of Interest!: Cosmeceuticals: Sea kelp bioferment

Sorry to get off topic, but KM are you adding this to your fsg or okra gel? Can you freeze it? I know you have mentioned that you can not freeze the seamollient.

kathymack i'm also curious about the sea kelp and seamollient! Do you find they give you better frizz control than hard hold gels?
