Default Haircut blues

Why is it that so many stylists can't seem to understand measurements?? I just FINALLY got my haircut, told her an inch, and to let me know if it needed to be more.

I left with 3-4 inches gone!!!

And, it feels a TON thinner!! I'm not a happy camper. It will take MONTHS to grow this out, too.

Now granted I've considered going shorter, but the point is I had decided not to at this time, and I told her AN INCH.

And why does it feel SO THIN????

I'm at a loss. I came home, wet, styled, and plopped. We'll see how it looks when the plop comes down and I diffuse it. Problem is it will be SHORTER, because I am styling it curly!!!!

So sad, and frustrated. Won't be going back to that place!!!!!

This is exactly why I rarely get my hair cut anymore. I say 1/2 inch and they chop of at least 3! Makes me so mad!!

Jas, I know exactly how you feel. I had a haircut just last week and felt the same. Still have to get used to it.

Will you show us the result or rather not?

Ugh. Yeah, this is why I cut my own hair! But every once in a while I get a pro-cut so my layers are more even. It has been about a year and a half since my last pro-cut.

I'll say this - it's a decent cut over-all. Even, and she compensated for where my curl pattern is uneven. She used all silicone and sulfate free products on my hair.

But she thinks an inch is WAAAAYYY bigger than it is!!! Especially on curly hair!! It will spring up almost twice what you cut off!!! Ugh.

Maybe she misunderstood me, idk.

It's drying right now, but I'll try to post a pick after I SOTC.

It's probably not as bad as it seems to me. My husband (who threatens me with divorce if I cut too much off - lol) said "it doesn't look THAT short". But when I told him how long it was before the cut, he said "was it really that long? Hmm." Geez. Husbands. Lol!

Haha my boyfriend often doesn't notice that I went to the hairdresser whereas it makes all difference to me because my head is so light! I also feel that my hair is way too short now, but I didn't consider the curls making it look even shorter.

Curious to see your picture, Jas! If it helps you, this was what my hair looked like after the cut: Hair salon/stylist dilemma (somewhere down the page).

Ugg, Jas that sucks but until I found my current stylist that is exactly what happened to me nearly every cut. They seem to think they are doing you a favor by cutting off all the 'damaged' ends.
I've posted this before but I found my current stylist by walking in and asking for a dry trim, I specified a half-inch. She sprayed my ends to dampen but she cut exactly what I asked. Winner!

Hugs to you Jas76; I finally found a hairdresser who when I say, take as little off as possible, actually does just that. I quit going to one I had been going to for almost seven years because she just kept cutting too much off. She was of the belief that once a woman hits a certain age (and I must've hit it), they shouldn't have long hair anymore. Well, where I am from (Hawaii), us ladies of a certain age and older keep our hair long. In my case, I do Polynesian dancing and I need long hair!

It probably also helps that my new hairdresser is a friend of my daughter & SIL and she comes to my house for dinner about twice a month. :-)

I can see why you think it's short, compared to before, but your curls look as gorgeous and healthy as ever. It's likely that no one except you will notice it because your curls are so beautiful. Hope you'll feel better about your hair soon!

Yeah, it's short, and I'd be pissed too .... but I'm still super jealous of your lovely red curls!

Aww.. Thanks, guys! Yeah, I'm pretty unhappy about it. :/

I had been considering a bob, but decided I'd just get a good cut and see if that fixed some issues, then maybe try a faux bob to see if that was what I really wanted to do.

But now I feel like my hair is in between the two. (Because it is.). And it will be x-mad before it's back to where it was.

Sigh.

It's unfortunate bc like I said it's a good cut other than all the missing length!

Maybe I'll try going back to my old stylist. I just thought I'd give this one a try.

And no haircuts for me (unless I'm the one doing it!) until next summer!!!

Aww, I'm sorry. I'd be pissed and sad too. It does look gorgeous, though, but I understand it isn't what you wanted.

Thanks, guys. Yeah, it's a good cut.

No, I didn't ask because I didn't really fully "get it" until I got home and looked at it. I thought I was "exaggerating" it in my head at the salon and wouldn't allow myself to flip out. But then I saw just how much was gone. I didn't cry - it's only hair and it will grow back, etc etc - but I did feel like crying!!

At least it's not a totally botched cut (which I've had before!!), it was just a lot more length than I had wanted.

No, it looks quite good. Still it isn't what you asked for and that is disappointing. I do wonder if it will boiong your curls up though.

Ugh. I just pulled it back into a pony - that's when I REALLY realized how short it is!!!

Oh well. It'll grow back. It doesn't look bad. And hair supposedly grows faster in the summer. Plus all the damage is gone, I'm sure. (Not that it was in bad shape before, but I'm trying to bright-side things!)

I'm sure I'll get used to it. Though there will be some styles I can no longer do.

I totally understand, Jas. It's so frustrating. And when you give an inch they take you for a mile. But you know what? I'd rather have a short haircut than a botched once anyways. A botched haircut ruins your hair because it destroys your curl pattern. A short haircut just needs a little growing out is all. It looks really nice in the pics you posted though. And maybe it'll grow faster now that all of the damaged bits are chopped off.
