Default Please HELP!!!

I know this issue has been talked to death but I would love some "personalized" recommendations.

Frizz!!!!

I have been CG since Feb and am loving my hair now!! But I can't seem to kick the frizz all the way, its all through my hair.....I can see it while I am adding product upside down in the shower and it just gets worse as it dries (I know there will always be a little)

I have tried sooo many products and am getting annoyed! So.......what do you all recommend?? FSG works pretty good but I have to put a hard hold over it or I am limp by afternoon. Okra is nice too but same issue. But even with these I am still having the frizz issues.

I live in a dry climate (Colorado) and am lucky to get dews above 40. My hair seems to do ok with glycerin for a couple of days and then get worse. I have tried Kccc but have to use a lot and my hair is very dense! That stuff isn't cheap

I am open to ordering online but I don't want to spend a fortune.

My analysis came back all medium/normal except for the density is very high. 2B/3A curls BSL.

I think I am good on my moisture/protein balance.....I use a gelatin PT when I feel like I need it and do regular DT's. I also use Henna to color and hide my lovely grey hairs

I had a trim a couple of months ago and it looks pretty healthy, little to no split ends.

Ummmm...... I am trying to make sure I give enough information here........

Any ideas my hair angels???

Have you tried sealing with an oil or butter, after your leave-in, but before gels? It really helps for me....what is your routine? I don't know what the Cantu is, but although I could use the GVP CB in medium dews, it's too much moisture in high dews (those of us in extreme high or low dews seem to share the same problem!). Also, are you using any protein? I have found I have to use a lot these days to keep the moisture/ protein balance right.

I have tried sealing with GSO and it didn't seem to help much. It seems too light, EVOO is too heavy, made me greasy. The Cantu is a shea butter leave in, nice and thick but not heavy. I got it at target.

Routine.... I co wash with either As I Am coconut co wash or Giovanni TTTT, Rinse out with several different things ( I am a PJ lol) Tresseme naturals, Fructis Triple Nutrition, Someone gave me an Ology moisture one that has some protein, Ion effective care has protein (it is also very thick and I am not super pleased about it, hard to detangle with it), But my favorite is the tresseme.
I rinse upside down (leave most of it in) and add the Leave in... I rotate those too between the Cantu and As I Am leave in.
Add my styler then plop for about 10-15 minutes (long enough to wash my face, brush teeth and put on makeup)
Then I usually pixie diffuse for about 10 minutes, upside down for about three, each side for about three.

Clip and air dry the rest of the way. I usually use a little conditioner or a pomade to SOTC. If I have a lot of frizz I will get the canopy a little damp and smooth some gel over it but the frizz is back within a couple hours.

What sort of butters and oils do you recommend? I don't get weight down very easily. I have used SM Smoothie in the past but was not very impressed.

I like the Jane Carter Nourish & Shine and Spiral Solutions Emmolience. They are both butters that have a lot of oil so are good for sealing, although I don't use them that way.

I normally seal with jojoba oil and use the butters to SOTC and smooth over my canopy to nip the frizz. The only time I really have too much frizz is if I use glycerin in my styling products, don't seal, or don't put enough product in my hair.

It's kind of weird you're seeing frizz even as your hair is wet....I've heard on this board that could be due to build up but I haven't experienced that. When is the last time you clarrified with a poo? It probably doesn't have to be a sulfate poo, but one with coco betaine which will remove pretty much all the things that could case build up (polyquats, silicones, too much oil, etc). As an aside, the SM low poo does not contain enough surfactants to remove build up, so you may have to purchase something else; even J&J baby wash. You could buy the little .99 cent trial size bottle.

Maybe low poo and see if that helps?

I will try the jojoba for sealing, I have some that I have been putting in my Okra and FSG. I have been eyeing the Jane carter but haven't seen it on the ground. May just have to order some. It has been a while since I clarified. The last time was BS/ACV and didn't do much. May just have to pick up the J&J.

Might have to work the PT's into my routine more often as well. What is your favorite protein conditioner? I am not too impressed with the one I have. and the few times I used keratin my hair didn't change at all, actually felt softer....odd (I used the generic joico k-pak from sally's) the at home gelatin recipe seems to work the best, but I haven't tried any others.

I use the Joico Kpak and gelatin, too. I also have the Regis/ Design Line Olive Oil condish that is awesome as a daily RO or LI. I just ordered the Shescentit Okra reconstructor and CJ Repair Me to see how I like them. I agree, when I do a PT my hair gets really soft and almost seems like it's over moisturized (and I usually don't do a DT after either), but it perks up a couple days later.

The softness you're feeling could be smoothness, as in the protein in the PT is plugging up the holes and smoothing out the hair shaft. When I use protein my hair feels much softer as in smoother, not softer as in the way it feels w/ moisture (more elastic, bendable).

Oops anyway was doing some reading and someone said the culprit could be build up from castor oil? The as I am had it. Maybe I should try a different co wash too? But I love this stuff!!! Lol. May have to go to Sally and see what I can find. Maybe I will try adding a protein filler to my rinse out?

Do you seal separate or add it into your leave in? How much do you use?

Order a Hair Analysis | Live Curly Live Free

It takes a while to come back but it is product neutral.. The don't recommend specific products but it helps to nail down what ingredients to use and what to stay away from.

Doesn't the As I Am cowash have polyquats?

Thanks for all the advice. Went shopping and picked up a poo to clarify and a deep treatment system. I was expirementing with SM soufflé and it has glycerin so I think my hair needs moisture. With the dryness here I think it may have drawn all the moisture out got a protein filler to add to my RO and some polyquat free stuff. See if that helps

Perhaps protein-moisture balance, that is not simply down to deep treatments but your choice of daily conditioners. The Cantu leave in contains glycerin and propylene glycol, both humectants that don't work in all dews, As I am leave in also contains propylene glycol. If I am looking at the right ingredients list for the Cantu leave in it contains a silicone and shea butter and a polyquat any of which can build up.

When did you last clarify? Are you flipping upside down and right way up too many times? What happens if you do everything upside down, or everything right way up? Or not enough water in your hair when you are applying the products? Are you applying section by section up to the roots, and using enough product since you have dense hair? What happens if you use one of your rinse outs as a leave in, but use loads since they are not so greasy or heavy?

I do my whole routine upside down. I don't flip right side up until my plop is in place. I am cutting out the cantu for a while and using TN for co wash rinse out and leave in for now. I got a protein filler to add as well. Going to start sealing on a regular basis as well. Trying out jojoba and avacado oil for that. I clarified last night with a Sally brand poo. And did a deep treat this morning. I think I was using too many humectants and not taking polyquats into consideration. I know it will take time to get it back to where it should be so now it's a waiting game.
