Thoughts on these protein rich conditioners?

Like Tree10Likes

From my other thread, I think I may be over conditioned. I'm going to try a lighter weight conditioner that has protein.

My hair seems to love all protein.I was using PM Awapuhi Wild Ginger Keratin Cream Rinse daily and the Intensive Keratin Treatment weekly before CG. The Keratin Cream Rinse contains isododecane and isohexadecane. The Keratin Intensive contains isohedadecane, amodimethicone, dimethicone, and polysilicone-15. These are NOT CG, correct?

I'm thinking of trying one of the Nature's Gate codmitioners... Leaning towards the Nature`s Gate Jojoba Revitalizing Conditioner for Damaged Hair - NaturallyCurly.com or Nature`s Gate Organic Grapefruit + Wild Ginger Conditioner - NaturallyCurly.com.... Or maybe a ren pure one. Thoughts? I have joico k pak to cause weekly but would like something for every day.

Natures Gate is a great company, however the ingredient list on nc.com may not be correct. I checked drugstore.com and iHerb.com and both your NG choices have glycerin. If your hair likes glycerin it should be fine, otherwise it may cause major frizz. The grapefruit one has a polyquat which may buildup similar to silicones, some curlies avoid those too.

The Renpure volumizing condish looks great (red bottle), I haven't tried any of these so I can't speak from experience but the ingredients look promising.

Mill Creek Botanicals has several protein containing CO's as well (iHerb.com or health food store). If you don't mind the prices Curl Junkie, Spiral Solutions and SheScentIt also have great PT's and protein RO's (online websites or CurlMart)

I love, love, love Regis Design Line olive oil condish. I bought it at the Regis salon in my Walmart. $10 for 12 oz I think. It's my fave! I just ordered the shescentit okra and CJ repair me as well but haven't received them yet.

Amino acids are not technically proteins, they are the building blocks for proteins and may be too small to adsorb to hair, just washing away. I suspect the panthenol will have more benefit than the amino acids. Interestingly there is also panthenol in your Paul Mitchell keratin treatment.

@lynaea: I'm actually not sure if my hair likes glycerin. I do live in a dry climate and have read that it's best to avoid because its a humectant. Not sure if it means in stylers or rinse out products as well

@chloe92us: Ty! Ill look for the Regis one. Is it only n Walmart? I don't have one that close to me

@firefox7275: thanks! So for proteins I should basically look for "hydrolized" ones so they're small enough to absorb? Any recs for products with panthenol?

Glycerin should be fine in your rinse out, it's when you leave glycerin in that may cause frizz.

I've been eyeing the MillCreek one too!

I've tried both the NG condishes. I like NG in general. The Jojoba one is thicker/ more moisturizing. It does have protein but it also has moisture so I'd say it's more protein/moisture balanced. If you're looking for a TON of protein I wouldn't say this one. To compare, the Millcreek one has keratin as the second ingredient.

light moisture, hydrolized protein, jelly stylers
guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride, sulfates
Neutral on cones.

I've used the Mill Creek Keratin conditioner. It does have a nice hit of protein, but was not very moisturizing. Unlike the NG conditioners, it was not strongly fragranced.

The NG Jojoba condish is fairly mildly fragranced. The Chamomile and the Jojoba ones are the mildest. It also depends on how sensitive you are. The NG Herbal condish though, my golly! That's one powerful smell!
