I only comb or use my tangle brush when my hair is soaking wet with conditioner. I use my fingers when my hair is damp.

The more hair one has, the more hair one would shed I believe. So the higher the density, the more shed. Also the longer one takes to detangle/remove them, the more shed.

This hairball is from March but it's usually this much. I have high density and I detangle every 7 days. I also do so extensively, with my fingers throughout wash day and lastly with a denman.

Below is the hairball and what it looks like when baggied, when I sent my shed hair to be analyzed. I probably didn't get all of my shed in there but fairly close!

Okay, this makes me feel better. I've just got a lot of long thick hair it seems. It does take me a good seven minutes maybe to detangle lately. I don't mind though. Better than spending ten minutes trying to detangle daily like back when I was abusing my hair.

P.S. Morbid curiosity is what this thread is all about. When I was asking people several months ago how much hair they lost on average and they were describing their hairballs, all I was thinking was, "Man, I wish I had a visual..."

I don't see the issue with showing a hairball, we show the hair on our heads afterall...what's the difference? Lol!

Dusa, if your hair is still as lengthy as it is in your avy...your shed should look like chewbacca. Long hair will appear like a lot just because it goes on forever. It's actually hard to compare our shed since we all have different lengths, densities and detangling schedules/methods.

My prayers have been answered!!!! I have been debating with myself on starting a thread about this. I always think" I wonder how Much other curlies loose". I have a ton of loss also :/, bigger than a quater. I'm not sure why it's so difficult for me to detangle my hair. I started to smooth conditioner on first and let it sit for several minutes before I finger comb. I'll post my squirrel next time I wash, probably Tuesday night.

Hi curlies!
I'm having a really nice hairballmoment
The last 2 washes my hairballsize was reduced to like half my hairballs I had before (in other words: it seems like I've been shedding less). I don't know yet if my hair will continue like that (would hope so).

Since the last couple of weeks three things have changed, what would be causing the "less shedding"? (the smaller hairballs?)
- dews: went up to around 70 last week: could that make a difference in shedding?
- stress: my worst exams are over since last week, I know you can shed more hair when having stress, but I've been shedding the same amount of hair since March, every time the same hairballsize
- protein: I didn't really use any protein before I got my hairanalysisresults (was scared), they told me my hair was fine textured, so I seriously upped the protein. For the last 2 weeks I've done 2 PTs and been using a proteinconditioner as a LI with every wash

Neleke, my money's on the protein because if you were going without your individual strands might've been weakened. I'm happy for you!

Wow, I'm so pleased other people are getting something out of this. I'm also quite tempted to change the name of this thread to "Let's compare shower squirrels!" for frivolous reasons. But it wouldn't make much sense. . .

My thinking exactly! Hair is hair. And yes, most of the hairs I shed are long. I have varying lengths because of the layers in my hair but none of the hair I shed is breakage, so far. They're all intact. As for good old chewy, yes, it used to look that way. I also used to shed hair all over the house. I think I still may but since I do a slight sweep over my hair and gentle finger comb in the morning when I refresh I usually catch about three to five hairs that might've made it onto the floor.

I'm not sure I shed any less in the shower, but I think I'm shedding much less everywhere else. I used to always be picking (long white) hairs off my shirt. I just realized I've had much less of that lately.

Hliarious! I have noticed less in the bottom of the shower - but I've never had enough to rationalize collecting it every day. Now I'm curious...

I have a lot of hair. I recently cut nearly 18" off, but when it was really long, let's just say that the hairballs would probably appall most people--and that was with normal shedding. Seasonal heavy shed, yikes! Now it's just above BSL wet, and I'd say the hairballs are about teaspoon to tablespoon size. I could probably recarpet poor ol' balding hubby's head mutilple times a year.

I'm glad my husband left for work before me today :-) Here is mine. It's not all that balled up, but I think it's in line with many of the others here. That's two days worth of shed.

Do you think my hair is coarse? I've always been told it is.

My hair is armpit length when wet. The longer it gets, the more the shedding hair gets caught and tangled in with the other hair so instead of falling out throughout the day it's all comes out all at once when I detangle in the morning. So, combine that with just plain more hair due to length and it seems like I lose more hair than when my hair was shorter. Just logical. Plus age and hormones certainly add to the mix.

This is one day's worth. If I go a few days without washing/detangling it is much bigger.

I think so. It looks similar to mine. Although I thought my hair was medium width before I sent it out to the hair analysis. Now, however, I guess I can see the coarseness. All of my hairs are comparable to a sewing thread and a choice few are so thick they're 3x the width of the already other thick ones. . .

Anyways, I was gonna come back yesterday evening but I decided to do an overnight deep treat last night so I wound up washing my hair this morning instead. So here's my latest hairball, take 2! I'm happy to see the other coarse ladies' hairballs so strongly resemble my own. Solidarity, curly-hairy sisters!

Almost forgot--this is a fourth day hairball, but just barely as I washed it this morning rather than this evening.

Ok here is mine..this 2day old hair when I washed it. I also used the swimmers clarifying treatment for mineral build up.. I have brastrap length and fine low porosity. ..not sure why my hair tangles, except maybe due to my hard water issue..anyone have a rec for a good detangler product..
