KCKT = slightly looser curls?

Hey guys. I used to think KCCC (while being my favorite styling product) gave me slightly looser curls until I started mixing up my leave in routine. Now I tend to use a different leave in every time I wash. I rotate from KCKT, Shea Moisture's Curl Enhancing Smoothie, Curl & Style Milk, Restorative Conditioner, Yucca Baobab Conditioner, etc. And it finally hit me yesterday--hey, KCCC doesn't actually give me looser curls than any other styling product actually. My hair looks the same with that, FSG, Curl Keeper, CJ Pattern Pusha. . . it's the combination of KCKT as my leave in followed by KCCC. Could it be that KCKT is so slippy it dissolves the ringlets somewhat, making them looser?

Could be as much what is not in KCKT as what IS in it, ingredients wise it is a detangler not a true leave in conditioner, contains no oils/ butters very little fatty alcohols or cationic surfactants. It may therefore behave completely differently in terms of holding moisture and acting as a barrier compared with other products you list. This can mean that with many conditioners your gel is kept away from the hair but with KCKT your gel come into direct contact with the hair.

pH may also be relevant since almost all true conditioners are acidic. Kinky Curly report Knot Today is pH 7 which is one hundred times more alkaline than a standard conditioner at pH 5.

Yeah, I've seen the natural haven's ph rating of Knot Today but when I tested it myself (3x!) I got a 6 for whatever reason. Maybe my batch is "off". I know KT isn't very moisturizing compared to other leave ins but man does my hair look and feel moisturized with it. And now I think I have a grasp of why. If it's not providing a barrier, maybe it's allowing the KCCC penetrate better and KCCC is a very moisturizing product on its own.

Moisturising is not the be all and end all, the hair does not need to hold too much water, it weakens the protein bonds in the hair.
