Using a Brush vs. Using a comb

I've been using a brush forever, and I hate the idea of using a comb. My hair is very thick and heavy, underneath my hair is usually tangled. (I do have a few long layers) Because it can be so tangled, wouldn't a comb take longer to use?

I don't know what type my hair is, either a 2c or a 3a at least. I notice a lot of breakage at the top of my head, little broken hairs that are very annoying and I think it might be because of using a brush. I also only brush my hair when I get out of the shower.

Does using a brush cause more frizz? If I was going to use a comb, what kind of comb is best? Should I do it only in the shower?

Sorry for all the questions, I am fed up with gambling on good hairdays and am trying to get better hair overall. :P
Are you brushing wet hair out of the shower? That causes a lot of breakage. One - because a brush is naturally more damaging, and two - wet hair is a lot more fragile. Most of us only use a comb. It may take a little longer, but it doesn't break and pull out as many hairs. Also, most only comb in the shower with lots of conditioner in to make the comb sllide through easily.

There are some people here who brush wet hair and say it doesn't seem to cause damage. And some say it improves their curl definition, though they seem to tend toward the 3b side of curliness.

I would certainly suggest you try combing in the shower while your hair is full of conditioner, as Bailey suggested. For most people, it's the safest way other than fingercombing to get the knots out.
