Default Volumax

I have been looking for a new gel, Have read great things about the Volumax gel from sally's. It is listed as an anti-humectant on the NC product list. My question is can it be used aver a humectant style gel like KCCC or over FSG?? Any input?

I have it and have good results when I use it over okra gel. It's not my favorite, but it's in the rotation.

What is your favorite hard hold over your okra?

I think my favorite is the GVP liquid sculpting gel. It's runny, though, so you won't like it if you like thick gels. The combo of the runny okra gel with the runny sculpting gel almost rewets my hair (in product) and gives me great clumping, and allows for easy distribution.

I've also been liking Dep Sport gel.

I just started using Volumax and so far I really like it. It's a bit thick for me, so I usually wet one of my hands and then mix the gel with some water (or use it on sopping wet hair).

I've used it over Re:Coil, which has glycerin, and got almost no frizz -- pretty unheard of here in humid, hot Illinois.

Since I just got it, I'm still experimenting to see what products it plays nicely with -- so far, it's been very forgiving!

I've been using Volumax for several days, as many know here I was struggling with the "Poof". Well - yesterday, it was HUMID! and my hair looked great. It got full in the humidity - it looked like Julliana Marguiles' hair when she wore it curly - and someone I know commented on the curl as well. So in the humidity it got big, full - but not frizzy. I use Deva foam over it.

I should also add that I have been using Yes to Cucumbers shampoo and conditioner, and the conditioner acts amazing on my hair as well. I think the shampoo may have cocobetaine, but I dont care!

I didn't realize there were two kinds of Volumax gel until it was mentioned in another thread -- I should clarify that I'm using the Volumax Mega gel. I think Myrna is using the Styling gel, right Myrna?

It sounds like they both work well, in any case!

Yes there are two volumax gels. I LOVE the styling one!! I've tried the mega one once or twice and wasn't impressed. I will try again just in case it was user error, but my hair loves the styling one. I purchased the liter and so happy I can get this locally and in the liter size. I use it over a leave in (then seal), that's it! I have used BRHG over it and that worked but its not necessary. I love the simplicity of using this gel!!

Myrna, It's great to hear that it works in high humidity as well, although its rare that I'm ever where it's humid but good to know nonetheless.

I am completely enthralled with this gel, and its interesting that it works for low and high porosity hair. I am wondering if it will work without Deva foam..I may try that soon..

I'm not much of a gel user. Could you explain what this gel does for you? Does it enhance curl? Is it for hold? Would it be a good substitute for the Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie? Thanks!

OK, I just read about it on the Sally website. It said compare to Matrix Vavoom. I used to love that Vavoom. I used it way back in the day when I was trying to do gravity defying stuff with my hair. But, I don't remember using it all over. I mostly used it to get big bangs back when that was the style. Does the Volumax feel sticky?

I love the volumax mega, I prefer it to brhg.
Myrna, hope you don't mind me asking, do you use the volumax and then the dc foam on soaking wet hair or do you scrunch out excess water first then add the foam? Thanks

Pianogirl, I use less than a dime size on each section of hair, and I divide my hair in thirds. It delivers, with the foam, the exact right amount of hold for me. I would not say it is is sticky. It does have some crunch but I like that because that is what keeps the hold in my curls all day. you can probably scrunch it out if it bothers you. I have not used the SN Smoothie, although I have been tempted, because I dont think that much oil will help my curls, but I dont know that for a fact. In any case, a butter type product is probably not the same as a gel.

Pixie, I never apply product to soaking wet hair, I tried once with the Jessicurl products and with my low porosity hair, it did not make a difference, in fact, it was worse. Remember LP hair does not absorb, so I always blot excess moisture.

I have also as I said, been using the Yes to Cucumbers, and there is something ab out that conditioner! It makes my hair feel - I dont know how to describe it.

I love the gel because I was struggling with getting my curls to hold in this weather. Yesterday it was very humid; my hair got full, which I love but no frizz. It looked like Bernadette Peters' hair.

Its a cheap gel! worth a try.

Myrna, interesting about using a foam over a gel. What does this do? Add hold?

Pixie - what about it makes you like it better than BRHG? I like BRHG very much, but I find it hard to apply.

I find bhrg hard to scrunch out, and then my hair is very soft after. I love the mega, it just not so crunchy and I find the hold is better for me
I'm in the UK, and was lucky to come across a bottle in TK maxx

Wavy, to be honest I dont know what it does; however, it s a technique borrowed from Deva stylists; they use a gel and "seal" it with the foam...who knows...so much of what they say is cr-p, but it works for me...I have always used a combo of gel and mousse, but in the past, I have applied the mousse first.

Thanks for the info Myrna! I don't mind crunch. I just don't like feeling like I need to wash my hands after I touch my hair. Also, I don't like it when my hair is all stuck together like it has glue in it.
