It's hot outside and I want to wear my hair in a high pony but the girth/weight of it I think keeps splitting elastic bands. Or maybe my hair expands in the heat? I don't know. I always feel secure when I leave the house but then it's not so much when I get back. I also get a headache if I don't use at least twelve bobby pins to help hold the hair up. Does anybody know of anything that's like a spin pin (meaning it'll gather and hold a lot of hair together all by itself) but like for a pony? I don't even know what I'm talking about really. I just want to rock a pony one day and have it be successful the whole day through.

What about those pony tail holders that little kids use with different animals/shapes that go into a loop? My hairs always been too thin to use those well! It's like I wrap it around once and it's too loose, but two times is too tight. Not really sure if thick hair would fit in it though. : )

My hair loves protein, plopping, and diffusing! Trying to find a way to style and air dry.
This happens to me too. Like 3 weeks ago my silicon hairtie snapped as I was eating out with my boyfriend AND I didn't have an extra. Thankfully the BF himself has hair long enough to tie, he ended up giving me his.

Right now I'm using a Goody banana clip. The curly mop hides the clip really well and it actually ends up looking quite nice.

I saw a video (not sure where) but they did two pony tails stacked on top of each other. As close together as you can get. The top one hid the bottom one so you couldn't tell. Less weight in the top one ( less stress on the edges ) and added benefit of making it look longer. I will see if I can find the link

Awesome Q, Dusa! I have been totally jealous of those who can wear high ponies but I totally want to try these tricks now - thanks ladies!

Sounds like it's time for scrunchies to make a comeback .

Dusa, when I read the name I thought you were just being fresh.

Like hey everyone, I've got so much hair, it's even too much for a pony (horse!) Well then Dusa... lucky you to have that problem!

Mine is the same. When I was a kid my Mom would give me a double pony like rykota describes. I have been using French clip barrettes to hold my pony for years. They are the only thing big enough to work. I have to get the biggest size.

I'm going to start trying some out tomorrow first thing.

Update: I was going to do the pony but then I got very ambitious and went for an updo. My first real and proper updo after maybe 7 months of CG. . . that is how much I love my curly hair down now. Guess what it took? 18 bobby pins, two metal barrettes I got to pass off as ornamental because they matched my outfit, and two giant goody spin pins. thank goodness my hair is black and all this stuff acts as camouflage because if not it wouldn't look nearly as neat as it does. So I guess I'll try the day after tomorrow since I'm washing my hair tonight. But the updo's a success!

Please post a pic of your updo! I ended up with a modified French twist today (using a claw clip) half way through the day, cause my hair was meh and the headset I was wearing only made my hair worsw. When I do messy bun, I use a scrunchie because the hair covers the scrunchie
I don't use any elastic or stretchy products for my ponytail. I only use medium size banana clips. They spread the weight of the hair out and it looks good, sort of like a cascade. I will often just twist up and clip with a large claw or twist into bun and secure with chopsticks.
Ficcare Maximus clips are great for updos with thick hair, and they will hold like a rock all day. I only have metal ones, though, and I think the new ones right now are acetate, so I don't know how well those hold up in comparison. There's supposed to be a new collection coming out at some point. They don't really work for ponytails, but if you want something for a French twist or bun, they're perfect.

It looked really pretty from the back and some people even though at first glance I'd gotten a haircut. I can only hope it comes out even better this time now that I have a sense of how much bolstering my hair needs. Do you have goodie spin pins? The big ones? (You can see them in the cool video Firefox posted.) I used two to cinch the whirly bun and a whole bunch of bobby pins to secure the edges and the multitude of places my crazy hair that wanted to come undone and then I used two ornamental pins on either side of my head for the same purposes, although I could've used bobby pins there too. You'll see what I mean when I recreate it and take a picture. Oh, that would be a fun idea for summer, too! A let's post our summer updo's thread! Maybe I'll do that. If nobody else beats me to it.
