Those who layer gels....

how do you do it? Do you scrunch in one gel and then another? Mix them together? Rake gel 1, then gel 2, then scrunch?

I just got the Volumax Mega gel which I like but I want to improve my technique. I'm also thinking of layering over FSG... thinking that will help me have a more even layer of gel over all.

Generally I like scrunching in products but I don't always get good even coverage. If I rake it can break up clumps/wave.

Thanks for suggestions!

I layer BRHG over FSG. I rake and comb in my leave-in, then rake and comb in FSG. Then I flip upside down and shake my head gently to encourage clumps and finally scrunch in BRHG. I haven't been able to apply BRHG any way other than scrunching upside down. I find it very hard to distribute evenly otherwise.

I have had success also mixing FSG, leave-in, and BRHG to make a curl cream. I combed it in but the BRHG removes the slip and it's not as easy. I may have added too much BRHG, though.

I agree with you about the coverage. Raking in my leave-in and FSG lets me get really good coverage, and then I just do my best with scrunching on FSG.

I sometimes use both SM Soufflé and KCCC. I put a dab of one and then a dab of another, mix it in the palm of my hand, and scrunch at each section of my curls. I continue mixing both together. Sometimes I put one first and then the other. Both methods work good for me so far.

I put my gel using the prayer method. I don't put fingers through hair but instead use both palms with hair in between and I slide them from around the root to the ends. I continue this throughout hair and then shake curls.
First I put in my leave in and then comb through my hair with my fingers. Next I will scrunch in FSG, then I scrunch in a little bit of la looks sport gel and then top it off with scrunching in Aussie instant freeze
I rake in all layers of products, then scrunch and pump to get the clumps going again.

My best results have been from raking / combing CIAB through after 'quick-rinsing' my LI, then I get out of the shower, blot the length a bit, flip/shake to loosen canopy. Then I fix the part and scrunch in Volumax Mega gel, I also kind of smooth/pat it over the canopy. Then I plop with heat, scrunch in tiny bit more VM gel and pixie diffuse to mostly dry.

I definitely feel like the extra layer helps if I 'miss a spot' and my hair can use all the hold it can get.

Thanks for the suggestions! I think I'll try the "prayer" method first and brush up on my "scrunch and pump" technique! Then I'll give raking another go.

I use activator and styling gel. I put the activator (which is a moisturizer) in first, then apply my EcoStyler.
