Default Question about the CG method

So, for the past few weeks I've been co-washing with a conditioner that has silicones in it, but I'm deciding to go completely CG now. Will it be okay if I just start co-washing with a silicone free conditioner or cleanser? Or do I have to wash my hair with a sulfate shampoo and THEN start doing that?

You can do what you want, but to clear the silicones and let moisture get to your hairyou should do a final shampoo

Eeek don't cowash with silicones!

You'll need a silicone-free sulfate shampoo OR a silicone-free low-poo with coco-betaine or cocamidopropyl betaine in the ingredients for a final wash to break down the silicones before you go CG!

I know, I know! It wasn't until a few days ago that I learned silicones were bad. Guess I was pretty late on that! If I wash with a sulfate shampoo, I can start using the no silicone conditioner right after with no problem?

Yup! Just make sure the sulfate shampoo doesn't have silicones in it. Most sulfate shampoos do. Alternately do a low-poo with coco or cocamidopropyl betaine (make sure no cones!). Sometimes when you're CG it's good to have one on hand, in case you need to clarify (from buildup or accidental silicone use).

Yes, as long as your sulfate shampoo doesn't contain silicones.

Have you read through either the stickies here and on the newbies board or the Curly Girl book? You can do your clarifying wash with sulphates or with cocoamidopropyl betaine, both will remove any build up.
