KCCC: I think I start to understand why a little goes a long way

Hi curlies,

I'm trying KCKT and KCCC for the first time today. My hair is still drying so I don't know the effects yet but I can feel it is getting seriously crunchy I think I used to much.
Normally I use 3 dollops of regular store Garnier Fructis gel (1 upside down, 1 to the sides, 1 again upside down) and then I top my hair with a bit of BRHG.
Now I used like half that amount, but KCCC instead of Garnier Fructis + BRHG. I thought that would be OKish since BRHG is a hard hol gel and so on...

I still have a lot of questions about KCCC though:
1) For people who "only" go through 1 jar of KCCC every 3-6 months: is that the small jar or the big size?
2) How much KCCC do you use and do you use it alone or with another gel?
3) KCCC compared to BRHG and FSG (I still have to try FSG): BRHG is a hard hold gel, what hold are the two others? Which ones can I use together?

Pleaaase curls, dry faster! I want to see the afterSOTCresults...

I don't have any experiences yet with KCCC, though I'm extremely curious about it.

However, I do make my own FSG so I can answer those questions. FSG is not necessarily a hard hold gel - not at all, actually. It dries crunchy at the beginning for me but that's because of the honey I add (for hold). However, I don't have to SOTC as it will go soft through the day. I can SOTC if I want though, but it still looks fine if I don't. The great thing about FSG is that you can create your own gel. Mine is just water, flaxseeds and honey, but you can add whatever you want. Right now I'm happy with it, though something to make my hair a bit softer would be nice (I'm thinking I need something moisturising in it, such as aloe vera gel). I like FSG because it defines my curls and holds them for the entire day, even though it's not a strong hold. It just works well for my hair.

I've also tried BRHG and if I compare them, I'd say BRHG was drying to my hair and it left me with white flakes. My hair became extremely hard and felt quite unnatural. Contrastingly, FSG enhances my natural curl without being drying or leaving it with that unnatural, producty feel. Did I already mention I'm a huge fan of FSG, even though I still haven't perfected my recipe? (though the fact that I haven't bothered to do that speaks for itself).

HTH and let me know if you have more questions.

FSG is thin and it isn't strong but it's oddly crunchy, so I don't like it. It doesn't help with clumping either. It's like worst of both worlds. I doesn't dry my hair out though, so that's a plus. Marshmallow root helps with slip and softens it up a bit.
1) I have the small jar.
2) I use about the size of 2 quarters (sorry, not good with measurements).
3) I have never made my own FSG but I use the SM Souffle which is FSG. I think I prefer the soufflé over the KCCC.

Personal opinion, but I don't think KCCC is so good that it is worth the $17 I paid for. I hope you get excellent results from it though, because I know that positive feeling when you find an HG product!

Oh and I overuse everything the first time. I guess I'm literally trying to get a feel for the product. I think the gel I'm trying now will mix well with my leave in to create more of a cream-gel...we shall see.

2) I think less is definitely more with this product. I have some in my hair right now and actually I think I'm liking it more than I thought I did. Considering I just came from a workout, my hair actually looks pretty good.

Today I poo-ed with SM Coconut/Hibiscus, then used the Milk as an RO, then put the tiniest dollop of KCKT (like dime-sized) and then maybe about a nnickle sized dollop of KCCC. I scrunched it all in soaking wet hair. I plopped for a few minutes, then pixie-diffused, then air dried with clips. The results I have today are the best I've had w/ KCCC.

Before I think I was using too much and it became a gunky mess. The first time I used it I tried to smooth it on and then scrunch - big mistake. My hair became rock hard (flash-dry) when I smoothed it on and then when I tried to scrunch it broke up all the clumps... and gunky mess. It actually made my hair straighter. I think it's very important with this product applying it while the hair is in the shape that you want it to be (so scrunched if you want wavy/curly.)

I don't think KCCC gives very much frizz control in very high dews so I have considered layering another gel on top... but then what's the point? For a freaking $30 product combo (KCKT + KCCC) .... I cannot be expected to purchase yet another product to put on top. Ridiculous.

3) You can layer gels in whatever way you wish. Usually people layer the softer hold gel on the botton and harder hold on top.

FSG is something like soft hold? It's hard to explain. The only light hold gel that I've tried is CIAB and FSG is way better. It's more of curl enhancer? It really doesn't feel like you have any product in your hair once it dries... I really like that.

KCCC is maybe medium hold? Also a little hard to explain (probably a feature of jellies). There was no crunch to scrunch today. My waves are nicely defined, I have rope curls and spirals, my hair isn't hard at all, kinda flowy but unfortunately on the frizzy side too. I think KCCC is a good product and I can absolutely see how other adore it, but for me I'm just not sure the results are good enough to justify the cost. I can get similar or even better results with homemade FSG; otherwise Volumax Mega gel has given me better results or plain conditioner-only styling w/ a protein LI.

Hope this helps!

For me, KCCC dries crunchy but when I SOTC, everything goes limp. It seemed to elongate my curls. I am keeping it to experiment with again later. It made my hair feel almost like plastic.

BRHG does the same thing- dries rock hard, but the hold doesn't seem to last- it SOTC too soft or something, and makes my hair feel producty. I could count to 2, the number of times I've had good hair with it. of course, I'll keep it and keep trying, lol.

FSG I like, but not nearly as much as OKRA gel. I like the way my hair feels with FSG- natural, soft. But it doesn't have quite the hold, clumping ability, or frizz control that okra gel does. I used FSG today, topped with GVP LSG. I had frizz at the crown by the end of the day, something I don't normally get with my "HG" combos.

So, I guess I really don't love any of those gels. There are others that work a lot better for me, and most of the gels I'm loving these days are cheap.

ok, what KCCC did for me:

I had soooo few frizz today, which I absolutely loved (maybe because it is glycerinefree?)

I thought I used to much but now I am not so sure about that. It did dry very crunchy in some parts, but not crunchy in other parts I think I just didn't spread the product evenly.
I did love how it defined my curls (and I got a compliment about my curls from a total stranger like an hour ago) and I do loooove the touch of my hair now... it feels softer than with my other gel and it looks more natural.
I should still work on spreading it evenly and on my technique in general.

I messed up my plopping and got bird's nest (which is because I messed up my technique, this has nothing to do with KCCC but just because I hurried too much, which has happened a lot before). The really nice thing though is that with my other gelcombination, if I get bird's nest before SOTC my hair is ruined and it will look like a disaster. After SOTC the KCCC my hair looked normal though, like a normal hairday (not a great hairday, but not a bad one either).

I still have to practice a lot on technique, but it seems like I might actually really like KCCC...
(I'm a bit less positive about KCKT though... it seems to flatten my curls a bit when I apply that one)

1) For people who "only" go through 1 jar of KCCC every 3-6 months: is that the small jar or the big size?

My last jar of KCCC lasted me over 6 months so I think I qualify. It was the the small one.

2) How much KCCC do you use and do you use it alone or with another gel?

It's hard to quantify because of its consistency. A finger(tip) full? A dime size? I think less than a quarter altogether.

3) KCCC compared to BRHG and FSG (I still have to try FSG): BRHG is a hard hold gel, what hold are the two others? Which ones can I use together?

I tried BRHG once and really didn't like it. It worked okay but it made my hair hard and crunchy. It also has parabens. FSG is soft hold. Very soft. You don't have to bother scrunching it because the crunch dissipates on its own. Well, I'm not speaking for anybody else but that is how it works for me. Again, I have thick, dense, highly porous hair.

The reasons why I love KCCC is because it's a gentle hold, but it's good at clumping my curls. My hair looks awesome for days on end with KCCC. It's a very natural product with an inoffensive smell that doesn't linger. It's inexpensive because, again, a little goes a long way. It really helps with frizz and shine. And it's played well with any leave in I've ever mixed with it. I haven't found anything else quite like it yet although I probably will eventually drive to Corona to pick up some Uncle Funky Daughter's Curly Magic, which is supposed to be very similar. . . For me, I can layer FSG with KCCC easily if I want to. If you really want super duper curly results, you should try the House of Curls approach. When your hair is soaking wet, add a dab of FSG for hold, then as your leave in some Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie or a curl cream equivalent (you can reverse the order of those two I've found), and then some KCCC. I'm more prone to doing a leave in then a gelly all by itself and maybe using FSG and curl cream to revive my clumps the second, third or fourth day but I've go to admit, a tsp of FSG a tsp of SMCES and then a pinch of KCCC altogether makes for super fabulous hair with a more consistent curl pattern.
