Default Craving a blow out - Talk me off the ledge!

I'm seeing my stylist for color only tomorrow. I am ready with my list of CG aveda products and I have already talked with the shampoo girl who is on board to cowash my hair tomorrow. Problem is that I am 45 days into CG and my hair sucks! I just looked at some pics of me wearing my hair natural pre-CG and my hair was so much prettier! It wasnt frizzy at all. I just want a blow out that I can wear for three days and not have to constantly wet and style my hair. Please help me!

It takes a while before your hair will adjust to the new ingredients and not using any heat styling products. Remember, if you decide to go and heat style, it further brings you a step back towards what your ultimate goal is. I remember being 2 months in and feeling utterly lost. However, if you want this enough (like any goal in life), you have to push through and struggle. Once you see how your hair is naturally, you won't want to go back.

For myself, I have been natural for 1.5 years and I can't ever imagine putting any heat styling tool towards my head, bc I am so proud of the curls that I have babied and been patient with. To throw that all away seems like a nightmare (personal opinion of course). My hair still can cause issues and can upset me, but I use this site and other tools to actively find the culprit. Also, I remember complaining how sucky my hair was when I first started and one curly told me one of the most valuable advice that I want to continue towards others. Don't expect your hair to be perfectly natural within a few days, if you have been heat styling, relaxing, etc for so many years. And it's true. I think that concept is connected with so many things in life. You can't expect to lose weight in one day when your eating habits have been bad for months, see my connection?

If you decide to blow-fry that is up to you. If thats what you want to do, that is perfectly fine! I know how it feels when you want your hair to be pretty and you reminiscence on photos of when your hair was heat styled and 'perfect.' However, don't expect to wet your hair curly and it be the way you want with no heat damage. At the end of the day, you make the decision

If you want a blow fry have one, just ask the stylist to use a lower heat setting and don't let her use a flat iron. The brushing part won't do your hair any favours but it will only cause minimal damage as a one off.

Be patient! Give it time. I just started my healthy hair journey last month, and I want to burn it into submission all the time! Just let your hair be what it is and let it heal. Also, when you walk out of that salon without giving into the temptation, it will feel amazing

Really? I can have one? Oh seriously firefox, you aren't helping me at all here. She loves the big round brush and I'll leave there looking ridiculous if I let her blow out my hair without a flat iron. I'm so better off without either. Amazingly, you just talked me off the fence! That's awesome!

Awww that blows. It's such a good tutorial with no direct heat. Just a hooded dryer or bonnet and NO brushes. You could probably even do it with a diffuser or no heat at all.

Her hair it tightly curly and it comes out awesome. Do you have a smart phone?

I only hope! I suspect that neither I or my stylist will be happy with the results. I am somewhat looking forward to seeing how my hair will respond to the limited selection of CG friendly products they have available. But geez! I am so ready to be rid of this awful frizz!

Ha ha ha, glad to be of use even if in a backwards sort of way! You will get there with Curly Girl, it's a case of understanding your hair properties and dew points, researching ingredients and experimenting.

Some lucky souls do get great hair from day one, I certainly did not because my hair was just too porous and damaged and I was too lazy to do the full routine AKA cheating. But little things kept me inspired, like my hair depoufing the first week, and the ends taking months to go dry and rough.
