Does anyone wake up with this?

Like Tree9Likes

This is what my hair looks like in the morning. I styled it yesterday at like 6pm. i usually wash and style daily.

Its too short to pineapple and even if i do pick it up it gets creases , knotty, and bent where the elastic ties, so basically i sleep with it down. Oh on a satin pillow case...

So if you look like this in the morning are you able to revive this?

Is your hair definitely 100% bone dry by the time you sleep? Your humidity levels might also be playing a role, the hair getting damp and then dry again.

What sort of elastic are you using for a pineapple? You might try simply flipping your hair over your head, a breathable natural silk instead of a man made satin pillowcase or sleep cap.
2a-2c, medium texture, porous/ colour treated. Three years CG. Past bra strap length heading for waist.

CO-wash: Inecto coconut/ Elvive Volume Collagen
Treatments: Komaza Care Matani, coconut/ sweet almond oils, Hairveda Sitrinillah
Leave in: Fructis Sleek & Shine (old), Gliss Ultimate Volume, various Elvive
Styler: Umberto Giannini jelly, Boots Essentials gel
Flour sack towel, pixie diffuse or air dry.
Experimenting with: benign neglect
Yea my hair is definitely bone dry by the time i go to bed. My hair dries in about an hour. Also i washed it at like 6 and went to bed like at midnight.
I get these same results when i wash in the morning and then wake up the next day.

Im in Miami so its pretty humid and dewy here. Maybe other FL wavies can chime in.

I never use an elastic because its pointless. If i flip my hair up over my pillow after 1 or 2 tosses and turns in my dead asleep state will bring all the hair back down , I've tried.

I can try another type of pillow case.

the sleep cap i used 1 night and all the edges were lifted like my front hair line and the back of my neck. I hated that thing...maybe a stringer holding gel?

I have discovered a big part of doing 2nd (or beyond) day hair is acceptance that it will never look like 1st day hair.

My curls become waves, and I'm okay with that some days. Other days, I just prefer for it to look its best, and wet and restyle.

Today I did 2nd day hair. What I do to "revive" the clumps (since they tend to be frizz in the morning) is take some light hold gel (my fave is Uncle Funky's Curly Magic or Spiral Solutions Curl enhancing jelly) and grab a curl- smooth the gel down the curl to reclump it, and continue around my head. This recreates the lost clumps for me.

I sometimes pineapple pigtail, but usually not. Sleep caps fall off, so I don't use them. I sleep on a regular cotton p/c. If I wake up and feel lazy, I accept that my hair isn't going to look as good as it did yesterday and try to make it work. I don't go for volume- I simply try to get some of the curls to clump back together and go more wavy.

Chloe92us when you add the gel to 2nd day hair do you wet your hair at all? What about twirl the gelled clumps around your finger? Or do you simply smoothe the gel straight down? I'm going to try this today but want your exact technique...

I don't wet my hair at all, but the key is to use a LIGHT hold gel- anything more will dry crunchy and it's almost impossible to SOTC.

Yes, I smooth down each curl/ clump, or "create" a curl or clump, and sometimes twirl it around my finger too. If the curl doesn't "spring" when I smooth the gel on, then I twirl.

Hope that helps!

I couldn't wait.

I tried some lalooks green gel with water mixed in my hands, flipped my head over and scrunched, then scrunched in some queen of Helene jojoba oil, and pixie diffused.

The result is not wonderful but its better than my "wake up" hair.

Then I gently finger combed any clumps that were overlapping or tangled. Then I took some Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie mixed with water, smoothed over and scrunched up. I can always reapply water because my hair is porous I guess. Then I just let my hair dry. I also recommend using something that helps re-clump your hair to refresh. SMCES, SM Curl & Style Milk, KCCC or FSG are all good. I don't like gels so much. Gellies and creams are better for my hair since gel makes my hair crispy. Anyways, I'd do the same today if I wanted to refresh my hair but since it smells like BBQ and hookah, I think I'll just shower. LOL!

I have 4a hair. To revive 2nd, 3rd... day hair, my trick while in shower is to briefly and under cold water wet hair by arching back so that I don't get too cold. I then let water saturate hair while I turn water to warm and shower. I shake hair a bit and take a bit of my gel and spread it "grosso modo" on hair using prayer method (using both palms and sliding them down a clump of hair from around root to ends). Sorry this might not be explained too well. Then I shake hair again and voila.

I think 2nd and beyond day hair is easier for those with stronger curl patterns....for those of us with more wavy hair, it's a lot more tricky!

2A/B. Mix of fine, medium, and coarse (mostly medium). Dense. Mix of normal and high porosity.
Dry climate.

I'm working on the same thing, although 2nd day hair is reasonably decent; 3rd day not so much, lol. I use a long silk sleep cap and put a loose fold-over elastic around the outside of it, plus use a silk pillowcase, and that seems to help quite a bit. I can't spray my hair with water (frizz), but I can use damp hands or mix water with something else. Right now I'm using SM C & H Milk plus a little camellia oil, and thinned considerably with water. That refreshes the curls and doesn't seem to break them up much. It also seems to help if I smooth the same mixture on at night--sitting on my hair overnight perks everything up. It's not perfect, but it's not bad. Part of my issue is I keep clipping my hair up because we've had so much wind lately, and that doesn't help the curls much. My hair is overall mostly 3a with some 3b ringlets in the back, and when I've had it clipped and then take the clip out I end up with more really loose spirals in the front and then the back is ringlets. So maybe a little odd looking, but it's a lot better than the windblown disaster look, lol.

+1 on using a jelly type product like SSCEJ or FSG. Some have like a very watered down version of FSG in a spray bottle, but I think what you're saying is that you don't need an overall spray-down but specific definition in certain areas? Then you'll need to manually touch up as you have.

Today I'm rocking 3rd day hair. It is fluffy. I accept.

Hi Janicke!
I have your same issue when the weather is really humid here, i think it's because our hair are fine (my hair become flat and lifeless when it rains, for example).

Sometimes it happens that they lose the definition when i CW for many days, so i resolve washing with a sulfate-free shampoo.
Other times i simply use a protein spray (with cheratin or oat hydrolized protein) that help my hair to be thicker and stay curly.
I hope this helps!

I bought them by myself from a polish website: Zrób Sobie Krem Kosmetyki Naturalne

They have hydrolized keratin in a watery solution, i added 9 ml of it in 300 ml of FSG and it gave me a nice curl definition and hold.
I noticed in the last weeks that my curls need moisture and little to no oil (it weights my hair down and they lost the curl pretty quickly).
I use oil only in hair masks that i use about 2/3 times a weeks instead of the conditioner
