Curl cream diluting my gel? Humidity? I don't know...

Hi everyone, I'm relatively new to the world of curly hair and still trying to figure things out. Prior to now, my styling routine has just been Kinky Curly Knot Today and LA Looks Sport Gel, which has worked great until recently, when my hair started being frizzy and undefined and awful; I thought maybe it was the humidity, so I picked up some new curl cream with antihumectant properties (Marc Anthony Strictly Curls Curl Envy Perfect Curl Cream) after reading good reviews about it.

The Marc Anthony stuff makes my curls shinier and softer, with more curl and less wave, which I like a lot. But because my curls get so soft, I also get frizz everywhere, especially my underlayers (always the first place to frizz) -- it seems almost like the cream partially cancels out the gel's hold.

What do? I can't tell if the curl cream isn't getting along with the gel or my hair, or if it's the weather, or I'm just styling wrong... I know this isn't a lot of info to go off of; sorry about that. Thanks so much!

for reference, I'm not doing the Curly Girl method (I'm a teenager and still reliant on my parents, so it's too constraining at the moment) and I think my hair's somewhere around 3b in terms of curl pattern. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, where the dew point's been hovering around 60 degrees.

Are you CG? The Marc Anthony has a couple cones. MO makes my hair frizz really bad. You might want to look for a lighter leave-in for the humidity. A heavy gel like the one you're using shouldn't be easily overcome though. I could see of you were using a gelee. It's more likely that the cream itself is giving you tons of frizz.
It's quite possible to do Curly Girl with widely available drugstore products. Are you using a sulphate or sulphate free shampoo?

What wash out and leave in conditioners are you using? Knot Today is really only a detangler, it doesn't contain any oils and little in the way of emollients (cationic surfactants and fatty alcohols) which aid clumping and frizz reduction. A true conditioner is also important for encouraging the cuticle to lay flat after shampooing because it is acidic, Knot Today is pH 7 so may well not be doing that.

What happens if you use more of the curl cream instead of the gel? Is that better or worse? It's not as simple as needing hold to kill frizz.

Jessiebanana: I'm not CG. If it's humid should I be using lighter products in general or just staying away from rich cream-type products?

Firefox: I'm using DermOrganic shampoo and masque, which I believe are sulfate free. And I suppose I haven't really been using a leave-in conditioner -- thanks for the explanation of detangler vs. leave-in! Maybe I should start surfing around for a real leave-in.

I used more curl cream today, which yielded slightly better results: a little less frizz, and it wasn't straw-like and horridly tangled. But the curls just don't have enough hold (though I think you're right in saying the frizz is its own separate problem from that)
Your shampoo may not be compatible with your curl cream long term, there is no cocoamdopropyl betaine or similar so it may not shift silicones. There are other ingredients that might build up in the curl cream too, and build up can contribute to frizz.

Having said that, I'd try a proper leave in conditioner first, you might be able to use the Dermorganic mask as a leave in if you do so on dripping wet hair so it dilutes and distributes well.
