I almost could've sworn I was the OP in this thread! My hair is EXACTLY like this too. I just recently went back to being curly after doing weekly (normally bi-weekly) blow outs, but I went on here and researched what I could before I started within a weekend on a limited budget.

I've only been using Suave Naturals Coconut to co-wash, and I use V05 Kiwi Lime Clarifying Shampoo about every 3 weeks. About once a week I'll leave in some coconut oil over night, and then use a sulfate-free shampoo before conditioning.

For styling products, I use SM Curl Enhancing Smoothie, and at one point I was using LA Looks gel (now I use Elasta QP), and I pretty much always use the "Rake and Shake" method. Sometimes to refresh my curls I use a homemade mix with AVG, distilled water, glycerin and essential oil. This last batch I added in some coconut oil too. I still need to get some flaxseed to make my own gel to see how well that works for me.

My hair has always been full of volume and body, as well as porous and taken ages to dry, even when it was relaxed. I'd be happy with half of the volume I have and not having to load up on products! However, I have to admit I know nothing about dew points and how my hair reacts. If anyone can point me in the right direction regarding that, it would be appreciated!

I think it might be related to your co-washing, and rarely shampooing while using silicones. Hair dries out when silicones aren't removed from your hair, and dry hair does poufs like that.

Aside from either not using silicones, OR shampooing on a frequent basis, I'd suggest trying Curl Keeper, preferably without the cones.

My hair is like this too it's frizzy and tends to poof even when wet and not using cones. Idk, my hair can also take soooo much conditiiner even though I think it's low porosity.

Okay, so update!

I followed a lot of the tips you guys shared with me: I clarified, started using a good conditioner (shea moisture reconstructive), started leaving a lot more product in, etc. I also made flax seed gel, which I am LOVING, possibly to HG degree.

I just wanted to share some pictures because I'm so excited about how much my hair is responding to the stuff you recommended.

Check it out, my hair is DRY. And normal sized!! I'm so happy.
And in addition, I have way less frizz. So exciting. Tips for decreasing bulk?-imageuploadedbycurltalk1373842577.631911.jpg

You're beautiful and so is your hair. BTW--my hair looked exactly the same as yours before I gave up cones. It was very big and poofy. Isn't it amazing how quickly the hair transforms once you poo those suckers out?
