Default Is there such thing as a product with good hold that doesn't dry crunchy?

I don't mind crunch at home but I hate when I have to go out with crunchy hair when it's drying... And if I have a house guest and I'm walking around with crunchy hair for 6+ hours as it air dries.

Diffusing daily is not an option. I love the results but I feel like its drying my hair out (even on cool and low air). Leave ins under my gel help but its still crunchy. Mousses make me frizzy. Cnditioner only is ok but not enough hold.

I don't so much need hold for my waves but I need it for frizz control. Suggestions? Or is any product with hold going to dry stiff and crunchy?

SS CEJ? It doesn't have crunch (maybe just a tiny bit, usually uncrunches on its own) but it doesn't have a lot of hold. It has enough hold for me personally to kinda keep the wave as it dries, but definitely not a lot.

These [picture] are the results I got from SS CEJ after completely dry and SOT(minimal)C. I did a PT and used a very light leave-in underneath... I think those also played a role. I do really really like how it came out though, one of my best hair days this month.

I was also going to suggest FSG, have you tried? I don't know about okra but I would imagine it's not too crunchy.

The gel in my signature. Seriously. I recently cheated on it and it made me appreciate it so much. I couldn't wait to go home and redo my hair. It leaves my hair feeling really smooth and product-less, but it holds well while wet. Even if I over do it and get some crunch, it still not even close to other products. I can't really scrunch my tightly curly hair, so I have to have a product that's stiffness is easily broken.

I'm intrigued! I'm having trouble finding the ingredients though.. does it have a lot of humectants?

I was looking for ingredients, too. There's a little organic store a few miles away that carries it so I can always read the back there.

Thank you... it's not actually very thick, i'm cheating because half that hair is coming from the other side of my head (so flipped).

Oh, haha. I cheat often too because my left side is skinner than my right for whatever reason. Just flip it, ladies!

To answer your question....no, not for me, and I've tried just about every product out there! For me, Hold = crunch, unfortunately.

FSG & okra gel have LESS crunch, but also less hold. They are good for frizz control, though, so it would be worth a shot!

Looks like someone beat me to it. I posted the ingredients on here when I first bought it. It does contain humectants, but most polymer based gels do. The glycerin provides a barrier and softens the hold. My hair is low porosity and loves glycerin so I can't really tell you if it does anything negative. Ecostyler even has glycerin and it's a hard hold mess.

Depends what you mean by hold, I get decent curl retention/ not flopping if I've used hydrolysed protein and/ or magnesium sulphate. They don't hold in the traditional sense but tighten the curl pattern partly from the inside which translates to curl retention.

In the wrong humidity/ dews products containing too much in the way of powerful humectants can weigh my hair down whilst it's drying, so less hold in the curliest state due to the extra water.

Hi wavydaze. What is SS CEJ? I couldn't find it in the abbreviations list, but then I may be missing it. Thanks.

SS CEJ = Spiral Solutions Curl Enhancing Jelly. It's good stuff, though it does contain mag sulfate (just in case that's a concern).

I've been loving UFDCM (Uncle Funky's Daughter Curly Magic) lately. Very light crunch that's easy to scrunch out, good hold, hair feels productless.

You might like Moroccanoil Curl Control Mousse. Really pumps wave and little to no crunch. I need gel over it but many may not. Especially finer hair. It's pretty awesome.

I love it, Chloe! It's curl enhancing and frizz reducing, has decent hold (my hair usually loses curl or frizzes as the day wears on, but not with UFDCM!), and is super slippery in wet hair, so easy to distribute. I can use a lot and my hair still just feels soft and like there's nothing in it when it's dry. And I don't usually get second day hair, but UFDCM works well in dry hair - and my hair is maintaining its curl overnight, which is also something I never used to get. This is as close to an HG styler as I've ever used!

I can't use it alone- I have to use another hard hold gel on top, but I use this interchangeably with my okra gel as my "middle" curl-enhancing/clumping product. Are you using it alone? I do LOVE it on dry hair too! This is definitely one of my top products that I will never be without!

I have been using alone, yes. I'm getting a little frizz, but nothing like I usually get with other products. I usually top everything with BRHG, but I ran out and haven't been able to find it at my usual stores. I've been pleasantly surprised at how well the UFDCM holds up without anything else on top, so I'll be really interested to see how it does with a dab of BRHG, once I can lay my hands on it again!
