For those of us who wrap or plop or some version of it...

Do you do this before or after you apply your products?

Corrina777 07-24-2013 11:40 AM

Usually after all products are applied, but I've been experimenting with plopping before I apply my final hold product. Results seem to vary based on which gel I'm using.

:dontknow:I feel like I have totally missed the boat! for some reason (old age, maybe??) I have never thought of applying the product, and then wrapping my hair. If I do wrap my hair, I do it out of the shower before I apply products.

Products first, then plop. I don't think I'm talented enough to put my gel in after I plop. I have enough trouble putting it in before!

I've been in an experimental mood lately, so I've been seriously mixing up my routine for the last few weeks. Even though my hair looks and feels fine, I feel like I'm in a bit of a rut.
I always plopped after product because I always applied product to sopping wet hair. I've only recently tried removing some water first before I apply products. And I find that I can only apply thinner products to my hair after plopping. I most often do this when I'm showering at the gym so that I can apply my gel when I'm in front of the mirror (I have a small mirror in my shower at home).

I always apply my products to soaking wet hair to get good distribution and a gel cast...I don't think it would work when most of the moisture has already been taken out by plopping. BUT, since I am a wavy and not curly, I will sometimes apply mousses after I plop for a more natural look. Mousses don't work as well in soaking hair IMO.

I usually plop and apply my products to soaking wet hair plopping. If I add anything afterward, it needs to be liquidy, thick gels disrupt my clumps. I can sometimes get away with carefully scrunching in some conditioner afterward if I use wet hands. I very seldom use mousse, but when I do, I need to apply that after plopping, on damp hair. It doesn't do anything for me if I apply mousse to soaking wet hair.

I plop after product, but I'm curious to see what the outcome would be if I reversed it. I'm still experimenting with my routine :)

I drape a MF towel over my hair and tie it at my neck while I dry off my bod, then gently press down to blot the excess water out. Then I apply all my products, then plop.

I do a similar routine. I loosely wrap a "towel" around my head when I get out of the shower, then when I'm done drying my body, I use the same "towel" to blot more water out of my hair. I then apply KCCC and EcoStyler Krystal, scrunch with flour sacks, and plop again. I don't keep track of this second plop, but when my hair is a little less than damp, I remove the plop and scrunch again with flour sacks and add another strong hold gel followed by either air dry or soft hood dryer.

Following this routine, using KCCC hasn't increased my drying time. I've tried applying product to soaking wet hair, but just couldn't master that technique. I rotate products, but I am starting to think the KCCC and EcoStyler are my HG products that will NOT rotate out of my routine. I've been getting consistently good results with this technique, even managing some 2nd and 3rd day hair (as long as I'm not having to work).

I don't really plop but I do wrap my hair while I'm getting dressed. I used to add product after but this past year switched to adding it right before I step out of the shower. I squeeze as much water out of my hair as possible before I add the product. I have noticed a big difference! I can really explain what exactly is different but my hair definitely looks better.

For how long do you all plop?

alslgirl2002 07-25-2013 07:16 AM

I guess I'm a wrapper! I've been calling it a modified tshirt turban. I do it after applying my leave in while I'm toweling off and applying lotion. This is about 10 minutes. Then I remove the tshirt and apply a small amount of gel to my canopy and scrunch a bit with the tshirt.

Okay.

If I plop AFTER adding gel, I get serious frizz. But, if I do gel + curl cream and THEN plop, it's awesome.

The HG combo for me is:

1) Gel
2) Curl Cream
3) Plop for 15 minutes (at MOST)
4) KCCC (a very light veil)

Myrna 07-25-2013 04:53 PM

I plopped today for the first time and I got pretty good results. AFter I plopped, I clipped up my hair for a bit, then diffused.

I plopped for about a half hour.
