part and density question for curly haired girls

I just wonder what's the best way to get an accurate measure of a curly hair-ed girl, trying to compress as much as possible. In a tight ponytail, just measuring around the band, I get 3.75 " but if I pull my string tighter, I can get 3.5 and if my husband uses his manly power, he can get as low as 3.25, but hoe much should you tighten that poor hair?? After a certain tightness, it must start to compact hairs over other hairs, no???? Also, should a curly hair do it on wet hair to get an accurate estimate??? Plus, I would love people to share pics of their part, I get really self-conscious of mine, especially in those little tv cameras at like "Taco Bell" it looks huge. Would you all please check it out and let me know if it looks normal?? Its been like this for as long as I've been paying attention. Thanks

Ooh! I have the same concern! Yours looks pretty normal to me. I sometimes feel like I have a complete bald spot in the back of my head when I see it in the mirror.
To OP, you have tons of hair- don't worry about your part.

I on the other hand, have such thin hair that my scalp on the front and crown is visible even when my hair is at its fullest and curliest.

Thanks, and I feel for you all. I've had such big sheds and that has drawn my attention to all aspects of my hair (the bad ones). I just never have known if other women have parts that look as big as mine, which is why I was asking. Mine is the same all the way from front to back, it's just wide, but my husband says it's probably because you have the thicker strands. But I was curious!

I really wouldn't worry about the taco bell cameras. It looks like you have medium density, possibly medium-high.
fine - normal porosity*?- medium density - normal elasticity. Hard water. SoCal.
*Used to be low-porosity, but I lightened my hair 1-2 shades, so I may be normal-porosity now.

Thanks so much. You know how it is, at Taco Bell or wherever those security cameras are, you're always alone. I never can tell if perhaps another curly with medium density like me, looks the same in those camera. Thanks for taking a look and giving me your opinion. I'm happy and can live with medium! Thanks

Also, my part looks wider and my hair looks less dense in general when I'm

1. needing protein
2. styling clumpy

HTH. It's good you're documenting your part, if you think it's really getting bigger over time I'd visit a derm but I don't think you need to worry about it right now.

Thanks, yeah I've been documenting it for a while, and that must just be me, because thank God it's always the same. Mine doesn't get wider like per say needing protein, but I can see what you mean about the clumping. My pores tend to go in all directions, which allows light to get in through all angles. If I focus real hard on making it a clean part, it does change, but usually I don't make a part, I just let it fall how it goes on its own. Which is why maybe it's all crazy!

I'd say it's a good idea to change your part around, otherwise the the hairs kinda get used to it being the same location and I think you could lose volume that way. If the hairs lay down more it can make your part seem bigger.

I know what you mean. My part is so ingrained, that as soon as I come out of the shower, it's already formed. I change it, it goes back. It's so annoying. And like I said, I think it has to do a lot with the direction of the pores. My hairs go to the side on each side of my part, whereas my daughter, . . .her hair has a center part, but all the hairs come in a forward direction so it doesn't allow light in the same way. I don't think I've ever, even as a kid, have had a small part, because in a pic when I was eight, it looked big when the sun was hitting down hard on it. Who knows if it has to do with having bigger pores since I have medium strand hairs, as opposed to someone who has fine hair, they must have smaller pores.

Holy moly, you have gorgeous hair!

Your part looks totally normal and super healthy! If it really bothers you, you can try finding some tinted dry shampoo and spraying it into your part. I use this very occasionally when I'm on stage and need something to disguise any white spots in my hair style (they really pick up in the light!). I would NEVER do this on a regular basis, but if you have some sort of event, it may help with any insecurity you may have.

But with that in mind, you really have nothing to worry about. Your hair is beautiful!

Oh! Also, instead of dry shampoo, you could dab on some dark cocoa powder. Might be enough.

Thanks so much. I don't want to put on extra product, although maybe just when I go into Taco Bell :-)) but my biggest relief is hearing that you all think it looks normal. I thought it was like super wide, because everyone else I see has thin parts, but then like my husband says, you never see their part when they bend over like you do when you look at yourself And seeing your own part in the mirror is different than how others see you. So thanks, I needed to hear that it looks completely normal, that's been my big relief. Thanks for the compliments as well.

Thanks so much, helps to hear that I look like others, and such, and maybe it is just me fixated on my part. Appreciate it a lot!
