Hello everyone! After lurking for ages and not really getting all the information I've been looking for, I finally decided to make an account and ask the questions I need answered. I am a teen who up until a year ago spent my whole life with my hair pulled back into a tight bun and headband, without the slightest clue on how to manage the what I thought was a curse, which is my naturally curly hair. Eventually I dared to do what I hadn't done before - Let my hair dry out, natural and free with what I learned was a Leave In conditioner. I was amazed at my curls and from then on I made it my goal to learn how to tame and embrace my hair. So to cut to the point, I've learned a lot, but here are the questions I still need answered after all my research:

1. I am not prepared to go full on CG, but I do want to try out Co Washing and RO's. I live in Canada so I am limited when it comes to the more famous curly products like the Suave Conditioners and Giovanni products (to my knowledge) and have yet to find them although I am planning on checking Rexall. What is the best drugstore Co wash that will not weigh down or make my hair greasy at the roots?

2. What is the best drugstore Rinse Out that can most likely be found in Canada drugstores? Free of anything harmful/silicones?

3. In what process should I use my styling products after showering? For example gels, leave ins, curl cream, etc?

4. What is porosity/density etc?

5. Know any other good drugstore products worth trying out?

I tend to get flat at the roots and lots of volume at the bottom/middle which drives me nuts because I love HUGE curly hair and lots of volume, so I am still trying to figure out how to help this issue. Will co washing and rinse outs reduce the volume in my hair? Once I figure out my staple products for styling after showers I'm going to try diffusing and other things. So far the products I like are the Garnier Sleek and Shine Leave In, Tigi Cat Walk Curls Rock Amplifier, Moroccan Oil (not the brand, any brand really, but I ALWAYS use a moroccan oil on my ends no matter what) and I plan on trying KY Liquid Jelly and LA Looks Sport Gel.

If anyone can please answer these questions or share tips it is greatly appreciated! I have a little past shoulder length dark brown 3a/3b curly hair, and desire lots of volume! Thank you so much

It dried out my hair. Ology moisturizing conditioner from walgreens worked well for me. & so did GVP conditioning balm from Sallys. I dont know what will make your hair greasy though. How thick-thin/dense is it? Frizzy? Mine is 3c, thick and dense.

3. I go leave in, oil, curl cream/gel/whatever styler I am using.

5. I dont want to recomment certain products because we may not have similar hair and even if we did, sometimes it may not work for you & be a waste of money. I just finding out your properties from the links in #4, Sharing those here and asking for product recommendations from those with hair properties similar to yours. For the flat roots though, it may help to adjust how you style or what you do after. For ex, diffuse works for big hair for me, plopping does for my sister.
Thanks so much for your help! Anyone else want to share their advice?

Hair Type: 3a/3b, dark brown, blonde highlights, normal - high porosity, fine - medium strands
Low Poo: Live Clean Moisturizing Shampoo (lowpoo)
Condish: Aussie Moist or Tresemee Naturals
Leave In: Giovanni DLI or Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine LI
Styling: Curls Rock Amplifier, Pantene Curl Defining Mousse (HG)
My hair loves protein!
You can order products online. Giovanni products can only be purchased online. I get great curl definition with gel. For me, I don't need expensive curl creams for that. So I would try a gel or pomade before getting a curl cream or pudding.

I am actually thinking about starting a blog for newbies like us. I have learned a lot about my hair and when I was a teen it was always up never down or I straightened it. I am really liking treseme naturals right now. I use it as co-wash and DC. As for how you use your products. I recommend your leave in first then an oil to seal it (like coconut oil or olive oil) then use your gels. Try not to use too much gel hairspray etc then I'd use a diffuser to dry it about 85-90 percent of the way. Don't touch your hair while it is drying this will cause frizz. Hope this helps you out. Good luck on your journey

I just went out today and purchased Tresemee Naturals, Aussie Moist, GF Body Boost, KY Liquid Jelly (apparently supposed to act as the Curly Hair Solutions Curl Activator, I checked and the ingredients are almost identical), and a gel I've heard good things about. I am just having trouble finding a good light co wash as my hair is easily weighed down. I plan on using the Tresemee natural or aussie moist as a rinse out and maybe the body boost as co wash if its light enough. I looked everywhere for Suave Naturals or VO5 but it's very rare here in Canada but I have yet to check nofrills which is where my mom said she's seen it. If I don't find it I'm not sure what to use for co wash. Thanks so much for your help. If you do start a blog, be sure to let us know!

Do you maybe have any suggestions for a good light co wash, preferably drugstore? I just need it to have good slip and wash out well and not weigh my hair down.
