Default Does anyone know these hairpins?

When my grandmother died we found these hairpins. They must be at least 35 years old, (probably older judging by the packaging), since I have only known her with short hair. She used to have long hair when she was young.

I've tried the larger pins and absolutely love them. Only two pins can hold up a bun for a whole day and you can shake your head and everything. So I'd like to know if they still exist and if so where I can buy them. I can't help but feel the pins I have belong in a museum

There are two sizes: Large and small

The large pins come in a box made of thick paper:

They were probably bought in Germany, since the package says: Aida Hochfeine extra starke gewellte Haarnadel. The side says: Unentbehrlich für jede Dame The back has a logo with WP 1584

The pins have waves in them and are kind of round so they follow the curve of your head.

I have not tried the smaller pins, but they look similar. These were probably bought in England. The package says: Waves Kirby-Beard hair pins. Invisible quality. Made in England. Art 81. George Goodman Ltd. of Birmingham England.

My grandmother was Dutch (as am I) and visited Germany and England, so I think she bought the pins there. But who knows where pins travel and are sold So does anyone recognize these??

The OP's pins look like they are made of metal and are very thin. I would love to find those too, to try them!

I have and use the Good Hair Days pins -- love them for buns or updos. They sometimes have rough seams on the interior but I sand them away with fine-grit sandpaper before using.

Thanks! They do look alike, only are those plastic and the ones I have are metal.

I did not think of searching on Amazon. Mainly because of the shipping costs to the Netherlands, which are soooo steep.

For instance with the $5 pin:

Items: USD 5.00
Shipping & handling: USD 36.98
Total before tax: USD 41.98

That kind of takes the fun out of shopping there :P I will check though if the British or German Amazon are more reasonable. Thanks again.

_Eva_, can you please post the link on Amazon to the metal pins you found (for the US price)? I'd like to check it out.

ETA: I just thought of these -- pic is not very helpful and I am not sure if Ricky's ships internationally:

I see those small ones in beauty supply stores all the time. They're usually labeled "hair pins" I think and the closed ones are "bobby".

Another thought is to search "Amish hair pins". There are some that are crimped. Then possibly you could bend/curve them as you wish. Here's a link to some on Etsy.

Thanks! Through that search I found these: Amazon.com: 3" Hair Pins - Bh440 (Brown): Clothing

Those look really similar. Now I only have to find a place which a) ships to my country and b) does so at a reasonable price.

Eva, I'm from the Netherlands as well and I order a lot of stuff for uni from Amazon.co.uk. Shipping rates there aren't too crazy, especially if you have the free delivery option available. Obviously it takes longer when you choose that, but I've always received my order within a week.

Another suggestion is checking the German and British eBay websites. Who knows what you might find!

Thanks!

I discovered the ones I found on Amazon are pins for ballet dancers. So next time I'm in Amsterdam I'm going to check if there's a shop for ballet supplies.

There's a small shop with dancer's supplies in Amersfoort. I'm sure you'll find one in Amsterdam as well. I'd google them and give them a call to check their stock.
